AFTER FORTY YEARS...

A woman awakes during the night to find that her husband was not in their bed. She puts on her robe and goes downstairs to look for him. She finds him sitting at the dining room table with a cup of coffee in front of him. He appears deep in thought, just staring at the wall. She watches as he wipes a tear from his eye and takes a sip of coffee.

"What's the matter, dear?" she whispers as she steps into the room. "Why are you down here at this time of night?"

The husband looks up, "Do you remember 40 years ago when we were dating, and you were only 18?" he asks solemnly. The wife is touched to tears thinking that her husband is so caring and sensitive.

"Yes, I do," she replies.

The husband pauses. The words are not coming easily. "Do you remember when your mother caught us behind the couch making love?"

"Yes, I remember." says the wife, lowering herself into a chair beside him.
The husband continues..."Do you remember when she shoved a shotgun in my face and said, 'Either you marry my daughter, or I will send you to jail for 40 years?'"

"I remember that, too." she replies softly. He wipes another tear from his cheek and says "I would have gotten out today."

Life is NOT like a box of chocolates...It's more like a jar of jalapenos. What you do today, might burn your ass tomorrow.

Have a great day! Next post will be up soon...Swing by again later ok? Thanks and have a nice day!

    Anonymous You don’t marry someone you can live with. You marry the person you cannot live without.

    Anonymous The husband is not the center of the relationship, nor is the wife. It’s not a question of who is the leader or who must make himself or herself a sacrifice for the other’s success and happiness. Just as a song is a marriage of music and lyrics, husband and wife are equal individuals who, at the same time, perform a single melody of life together. What is important, I think, is how beautiful a song these two life partners can create together.

    In order to achieve a deep and harmonious relationship, I believe the two most important ingredients are a sense of gratitude and a common goal.

    Very true. It is not easy to take the path of marriage and once married, it takes a lot of commitment, dedication, effort, patience, forgiveness, tolerance and understanding to last the years...

    Take care and may you have marital bliss always!

    God bless you and yours. Have a nice day!

    Actually, that is so true. There is a lot of attention on how mom juggle career with family responsibilities and many forget that in modern society, the husband now shares in many roles too!

    Take care and God bless.

    Actually, it is true - not just for husbands, but wives as well.

    I always believe that it is easier to be single. No wonder my single friends look younger and prettier/more handsome!!

    Take care and God bless you and yours always.

    Have a great day!

    Kampung Girl A friend once told me :
    Like many other couples, we've fallen into the habit of watching some TV before bedtime. By the time we actually went to bed, we were already shattered.

    Food for thought, haha!

    Unknown Hi Kampung Girl

    Of course I don't regret it. I love my family - my spouse and my two boys very much and cannot imagine what life would be like without them.

    But - a single life is easier because:
    * you can do whatever, whenever, wherever
    * you can spend without worrying about many issues
    * you can go for holidays without worrying about total expenses
    * you don't have to worry about what to cook cos A, B and C have different likes, dislikes
    * there is less laundry
    * less ironing
    * less chauffering
    * less nurturing
    * less multi-
    * less stress :-) and less responsibilities

    BUT

    with singlehood,

    there is also more loneliness and other issues.

    Bottom line is, be happy whatever state you are in.

    Take care and God bless!

    Anonymous With marriage :

    You have someone there to depend upon emotionally and physically, but after a while it can become boring. One or both may start to wonder and wander.

    Thank you for your pragmatic comment. It is true that after some time, life could be boring. That is why it is important to have children because bringing up kids can draw the couple closer (and tear them apart too if they are unable to cope with parenthood). At the same time, both parties must sustain romance, passion and commitment in the marriage, without which alarm signals could be ringing.

    A misconception is that love sustains marriage. In truth, marriage sustains love.

    I used to have lively debates about this topic in my sociology classes. Now, decades later, many of my students agree with me :-).

    Take care and God bless you with love, harmony and fulfilment in your life.

    God bless you and yours always.

    ahoo The life of a married couple is not measured by the number of years lived together but by the years in caring, sharing, loving and respecting each other till death.

    It is never a moment to be taken for granted as both will change for good or bad.

    A woman marry a man hoping that he will change someday but sadly he will not. And a man marry a woman hoping she will not change but she changes. So, just count our blessings by the day and I am sure to stay married for forty years will be a bliss. Be blessed daily !

    FYI, this is not my comment :

    Tears of regrets!
