ALWAYS

I realize that the older one grows, the more difficult it is to make new friends. When we were young, our naivety and innocence made it easier for us to accept disappointments and to be more understanding. As we grow older, we move into a friendship with expectations, hang-ups, fears etc. If we move too fast, we might scare the person away. If we are too loving, we could get hurt. If we are too generous, we could be used by others. The list is endless.

In this cruel world, there are many who may not love that easily or reciprocate accordingly. When that happens, it is natural that the injured party may seek solace in solitude. I have met many who prefer to live a simple uncomplicated life, even if one has very few friends. No matter what, I believe that despite whatever disappointments we may have experienced in life, we have to always be ourselves and not to let people or circumstances rob us of our unique character. If we are loving and kind and have been hurt by those who could not love us in return or to show a little bit of love and kindness, that should not prevent us from ever loving or being kind to others. We just have to consolidate and move on. Of course we would also have to be wiser.

The following poem has beautiful words of wisdom about this whole topic. I do not know who is the author. Do read it and pass it on if you have been blessed by these words. Take care and have a lovely day!

ALWAYS BE

Always,
Be understanding to your enemies.
Be loyal to your friends.
Be strong enough to face the world each day.
Be weak enough to know you cannot do everything alone.

Always,
Be generous to those who need your help.
Be frugal with that you need yourself.
Be wise enough to know that you do not know everything.
Be smart enough to continue learning.

Always,
Be willing to share your joys.
Be willing to share the sorrows of others.
Be a leader when you see a path others have missed.
Be a follower when you are shrouded by the mists of uncertainty.

Always,
Be first to congratulate an opponent who succeeds.
Be last to criticize a colleague who fails.
Be sure where your next step will fall, so that you will not tumble.
Be sure of your final destination, by setting your goals along the way.

Above all,
always be yourself.

Huilu Character and integrity are very important. A spirit of mutual respect and trust is a vital basis for real friendship. That said, there might naturally be times when you have arguments and disagreements with your friends. But there should always be an underlying spirit of respect and consideration for each other, no matter how close you are. In friendship, you must not think only of yourself.

Alas, we have many old but wicked and unscrupulous cum greedy and insincere people. Look at some super seniors like TDM and the ministers of Information and Education.......if one is truly God fearing and honest in wanting to help with nothing expected in return, one always will be attracting new friends. regards. bengaun

Anonymous I humbly submit to your words of wisdom, EXCEPT, “Be understanding to your enemy”.

Suddenly A.I. and I. A.’s faces flash in front of me laughing hysterically and saying, “You can all go to hell, you bunch of sissies!” I’m going berserk just thinking of their evil faces!!!!!

For me, it is my steadfast belief that an enemy is an enemy and must be treated as such!!! Unless and until the enemy unconditionally renounces all hostilities and animosity, they WILL remain an enemy.

But when they do, I will shake their hand and tell them, “You are my friend”.

But until then, I’ll say, “PLUCK YEW!” to my enemy.

Anonymous I'm reminded of the saying, "If your enemy slaps your right cheek, tell him to slap your left cheek too."

No sir, I'm not THAT understanding.

I will saw off the hand that slapped my right cheek.

    StraightTalking

  1. says:

    Anonymous Dear StraightTalking,
The wording was: "New American Standard Bible (©1995)
"But I say to you, do not resist an evil person; but whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also."
    ;)

    1. We have to take the saying according to its intended context.
Jesus was speaking of insult, not some grievous bodily hurt or threat.

2.The Mosaic Laws of those times made the people very revengeful and unforgiving to the smallest of insults. You know, "A tooth for a tooth, an eye for an eye thing, etc., wrt to any and all offenses.

    3. Jesus was sent to move these people out of this extreme state from theeffect of this fatalistic and straight jacket Mosaic Law which was making them very backward emotionally and in other ways.

Therefore the saying itself is disingenuous and misleadng when taken out of its actual context like such.

    There are always extenuating situations

Take the case of the Kurukshetra War where Kauravas and Pandavas faced of as told in the Mahabharata/Bhagavad Gita.

There the clan of Kauranas broke their promise to the clan of Pandavas which would have condemned the later to eventual slow death.

Can you understand why Gandhi was such a eccentric and even dangerous cad? He also supported the Holocaust. This, few people knows or cares about.
