An Early Lunar New Year Greeting!

It is that time of the year when the exodus begins as Chinese New Year falls on February 3rd and 4th this year. Since the beginning of this week, the roads in Penang have been congested with vehicles and going anywhere is a nightmare. Queueing up to pay is another story as many flock to department stores and supermarkets for their last minute shopping.

For me, Chinese New Year brings back painful memories - ever since my dad passed away in October 2007. I look back on those years with fondest memories and wish I could turn the clock back to spend precious moments with him.

We all know that Chinese New Year is a time to renew friendship and ties. More importantly, I believe friendship and familial ties should be sustained throughout our lifetime, not just during the festive season.

It does not take much to show a little bit of love and kindness to let our loved ones know that we remember them, we are thinking of them and how much they mean to us. A simple sms, phone call, an email, a FB/twitter message etc - all do not require much effort or money.

In the mean time, as you make your way to your parents' or grandparents' home, drive safely and ensure your homes are securely locked. Pass on your spare keys to trusted neighbours and remember to inform your newspaper vendor about your away schedule as a pile of newspapers in your garden would be a tell-tale giveaway of your absence!

Here's wishing all Chinese readers and their loved ones A Very Happy and Prosperous Chinese New Year!

I am not taking a break and blog posts will be up as usual. Thanks so much for all your support, emails, comments, friendship, FB messages/connections and for standing in solidarity with me for a better Malaysia.

Anonymous Indeed painful memories for me too. Last year in April I'd lost my 4th uncle who was only 69 years old and end Oct, I lost my dad who was only 73 years old.

They are inreplaceable in my heart as both had left indelible marks in my life one way or the other. It will be the first CNY without them and I truly missed them.

Well, we are not in control of life & death and whatever time we have on earth, let us be mindful that our life on earth have a definite purpose. To live and to love those who need our love for He had redeemed us for that purpose.

Happy Blessed CNY to you & family !

Your comment really resonates with what is in my heart! I still remember the first CNY without my dad - very painful. I still miss him and my mom who died 38 years ago!

May this festive season be one that draws you and your loved ones closer to one another and to the Lord.

Take care and God bless you and yours always!

Thanks so much for your friendship, connection and input!

    Shalom
