Pass the Butter!

Thanks to Angela who sent me the following post via email. I have no clue as to the authorship of this article or its authenticity and am sharing this information with good intentions. I googled for the article and THIS SITE which posted it (together with other interesting information) also mentioned that its authorship is unknown. Have a nice day, everyone!

Please pass the butter.

This is frightening! Have you heard this before?

Having Worked at Unilevers Premier Margarine Factory in the UK for 1 Year, as a Management Trainee, and then in Sri Lanka Managing Margarine Manufacture, I can safely admit that what you are about to read is true !!

This is interesting. .. .

Margarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys. When it killed the turkeys, the people who had put all the money into the research wanted a payback so they put their heads together to figure out what to do with this product to get their money back.

It was a white substance with no food appeal so they added the yellow colouring and sold it to people to use in place of butter. How do you like it? They have come out with some clever new flavourings....

DO YOU KNOW.. The difference between margarine and butter?

Read on to the end...gets very interesting!

Both have the same amount of calories.

Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams; compared to 5 grams for margarine.
Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of butter, according to a recent Harvard Medical Study.

Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods.

Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few and only because they are added!

Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the flavours of other foods.
Butter has been around for centuries where margarine has been around for less than 100 years.

And now, for Margarine..

  • Very High in Trans fatty acids.
  • Triples risk of coronary heart disease ...
  • Increases total cholesterol and LDL (this is the bad cholesterol) and lowers HDL cholesterol, (the good cholesterol)
  • Increases the risk of cancers up to five times..
  • Lowers quality of breast milk.
  • Decreases immune response.
  • Decreases insulin response..
And here's the most disturbing fact.... HERE IS THE PART THAT IS VERY INTERESTING!

Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC...and shares 27 ingredients with PAINT

These facts alone were enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added, changing the molecular structure of the substance).
You can try this yourself:
Purchase a tub of margarine and leave it open in your garage or shaded area. Within a couple of days you will notice a couple of things:
* no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should tell you something)
* it does not rot or smell differently because it has nonutritional value ; nothing will grow on it. Even those teeny weeny microorganisms will not a find a home to grow. Why? Because it is nearly plastic. Would you melt your Tupperware and spread that on your toast?

Share This With Your Friends.....(If you want to butter them up')!

Chinese Proverb:
When someone shares something of value with you and you benefit from it, you have a moral obligation to share it with others.

Pass the BUTTER PLEASE

    Umm Asri Hi MW
Most important to read the package. Be aware margarine mix sikit olive oil, the label says healthy olive oil spread. I take bread dip in evoo, butter & whole milk. No skim2 milk for the family. Expensive in the beginning but I see savings in the long run. Proven albeit slowwwly. Ofcourse mesti ada adab2 makanlah. I'm 52 still drink goat's milk. Dental & health screening. No x-ray2. God willing, if meant to go, I'll go knowing I dont take my health for granted.

Anonymous Read it via email some years ago BUT didn't probe further on it. Somehow, we never liked margarine but prefer cheese and butter.

Anyway, there is also the email on FLORIDE which is supposed to be strengthen out teeth but according to that article, it is a very harmful substance if swallowed. And we find it on almost all brands of tooth paste out there.

Unless we hear from a qualified chemist with no personal interest to these written articles (both margarine & floride) we have to live by it and take those articles with a pinch of salt. Nonetheless, prevention is still better than a cure so less contact with it could be a better choice than to regret later.

Better to live well and be moderate in things than to be "chemically laced." Cheers for the week ahead and Wishing you and yours a fruitful and blessed Chinese New Year. May the mess of past years be laid to rest and be positive to know that He cares and will provide you only the best as you join Him in your daily quest for more progress.

semuanya OK kot A small portion of margarine (about 2%) consists of transfat (or partially hydrogenated fat) that the body can digest and store but not metabolise (it is not food) or excrete (it accuulates in the body - about 5% of body fat of Americans).

It is associated with heart disease and cancer. No level is safe, despite claims that 0.5% is OK.

In Australia, margarine is free of this stuff by law. One small Australian town made the news when it boycotted chocolate containing this fake stuff instead of their plentiful butter. Some places like New York state have forced fast-food chains to drop this for frying - it was being used as it was the cheapest. The fact that is generally business as usual elsewhere should tell you something.

Besides margarine, commercial fried meat and commercial potato fries, trans-fat is also present in coffee creamer, condensed milk, roti chanai, cakes, mayonnaise, pizzas, "cream" biscuits. It may be falsely declared as "shortening" or even "vegetable oil".
