The Milk of Human Kindness

One day, a poor boy, who was selling goods from door to door to pay his way through school, found he had only one thin dime left, and he was hungry. He decided he would ask for a meal at the next house.

However, he lost his nerve when a lovely young woman opened the door. Instead of a meal he asked for a drink of water. She thought he looked hungry so she brought him a large glass of milk.

He drank it slowly, and then asked, How much do I owe you? "You don't owe me anything," she replied. "Mother has taught us never to accept pay for a kindness."

He said... "Then I thank you from my heart."

As Howard Kelly left that house, he not only felt stronger physically, but his faith in God and man was stronger also. He had been ready to give up and quit.

Many years later that same young woman became critically ill. The local doctors were baffled. They finally sent her to the big city, where they called in specialists to study her rare disease.

Dr. Howard Kelly was called in for the consultation. When he heard the name of the town she came from, a strange light filled his eyes. Immediately he rose and went down the hall of the hospital to her room.

Dressed in his doctor's gown he went in to see her. He recognized her at once.

He went back to the consultation room determined to do his best to save her life. From that day he gave special attention to her case.

After a long struggle, the battle was won.

Dr. Kelly requested the business office to pass the final bill to him for approval. He looked at it, then wrote something on the edge and the bill was sent to her room. She feared to open it, for she was sure it would take the rest of her life to pay for it all. Finally she looked, and something caught her attention on the side of the bill. She read these words.....

"Paid in full with one glass of milk." -- Signed -- Dr. Howard Kelly.

This is has been verified as a true story by snopes HERE. May it inspire us to do acts of kindness everyday or whenever the opportunity arises. Have a great day!

Chester Khuan At least Dr Howard Kelly can pay back her kindness. For me when I can't pay back kindness shown to me, I pay it forward by showing kindness to others the same way I have been treated kindly before.

ahoo We'd met a man whose wife was down with stroke for many years now. He cleaned her up and changes the pamper etc. daily. Feed her with special diets and freshly grinded juices. Toil with such care and love for his wife as the children are all grown up and gone with hardly any of them coming back to lend a hand of support.

We asked can we help in any way ? He was very reluctant initially as he thought that there will be charges that he can't afford to pay. Well, we offer special prayers for his wife and buy simple fruit like banana etc that is platable to her. He was shock that not only was there no payment needed, we can still offer gift in kind as well.

He relates that in his religious up bringing, he has to pay for prayer rendered and also that he had not heard of visitation to those sick and needy. Last Tuesday, three of our team members brought him and his wife to the govt hospital to receive her monthly treatment and no payment is needed as we are blessed to bless others. It is quite shocking to hear that he hardly receive any visitors from his religious body for the many years that his wife was struck with stroke.

Well, all in all I can only say that love conquers all if we have the love of God and operates in His love for mankind. Cheers !
