As an avid gadget freak, I read tech/gadget/IT websites and forums - all of which have revealed that updating older devices (anything more than a year old is old - thank God I am not a gadget for otherwise, I would be an archaeological specimen!) to 4.2.2 tends to cause the battery to run out faster.
If you are on Nexus, your device updates its OS automatically as Google made Nexus! Non-Nexus devices need to be updated manually. It is better if you root your phone but till now, I dare not do that knowing how risky it is even though I know the operations involved.
As for now, I am drooling over the Nexus 7 tablet which will debut on July 30(only be available in Malaysia at a much later date). And why so?
Fifteen reasons why I want the new Nexus 7 tablet:
- It has a 7-inch screen,
- The display from 1,280 by 800 to 1,920 by 1,200
- The pixels per inch jump from 216 to 323 which Google claims is the highest resolution for a 7-inch tablet and the highest PPI for any tablet on the market!!!!
- Text and images will look sharper and we can watch video clips in native 1080p resolution.
- It is 2mm thinner and 50 grams lighter than the original
- With a reduced bezel size, it is almost 6mm narrower
- The tablet runs a 1.4-GHz, quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset for a CPU that's 80 percent faster than the original tablet.
- The GPU also delivers 4x the graphics frame rate which is fantastic for gamers
- The new Nexus 7 can tap into a new gaming hub - an app known as Google Play Games.
- Google also doubled the system memory to 2GB, which allows for more apps in RAM and speeds up app switching.
- There's also dual-band Wi-Fi, support for Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, wireless charging, and more.
- The new Nexus 7 now has a 1.2-megapixel front- and 5-megapixel rear-facing camera
- There's dual stereo speakers, and virtual surround sound technology from Fraunhofer - akin to a 5.1 sound system via the device speakers or headphones.
- It offers an extra hour of power compared to the original.
- We can enjoy up to 9 hours of HD video playback and 10 hours of Webrowsing and e-reading.
Another strong point is that Nexus 7 uses the updated Jelly Bean known as Android 4.3 Jelly Bean
which allows restricted profiles which means parents can disable the ability to make in-app purchases. This way, juniors can only open certain apps and not make purchases freely .
With Android 4.3 OS, consumers can enjoy Bluetooth smart technology which allows us to pair an Android phone or tablet with low-power devices like fitness gadgets.
The best part is that Android 4.3 supports Open GL ES 3.0 which is the latest standard for accelerated 3D graphics.
In time to come, Google will release a new set of DRM APIs to facilitate hardware-based encryption.
While our hearts are beating excitedly with all these tune-ups, the best is yet to come!
Android 5.0 Lime Pie will be coming by fall! Yayyyyyyyy!
