PENANGITES - WE'VE GOT A DATE TONIGHT

Please make yourself free if you are in Penang tonight. We've got a VIA (Very Important Appointment) with Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, coordinator of Pakatan Rakyat to form a formal coalition for the Pakatan who will be speaking on the Two-Party System for Malaysia at Kompleks Penyayang from 8.30p.m. to 10.30p.m. tonight.

The formation of Pakatan Rakyat as a legal entity will mark the beginning of a two-party system in Malaysia. There will emerge a multiracial mass-based political coalition capable of challenging and replacing the Barisan National as the government of Malaysia.

Such a two-party system will offer a more level field for political competition in Malaysia, provide better representation of the interests of the rakyat, expand the democratic spaces necessary to protect of the rights of the people, and at the same time force the implementation of the much overdue reforms in the Barisan National which has so far refused to listen to the people as it holds on to its monopoly of power at the central level.

Efforts of Datuk Zaid Ibrahim in forming a legal entity for Pakatan Rakyat can be seen as a first step towards the realization of the two-party System for Malaysia.

This forum is part of The Sembang-Sembang Forum organized by YB Sim Tze Tzin (Adun, Pantai Jerejak which takes place at the beginning of each month.

Sembang-Sembang means having casual conversations. After the presentation by the speakers, participants will be invited to ask questions and they can also offer their views and suggestion on the subject being addressed.

This free flow of exchanging ideas will help us achieve a better understanding of the issues. With this, it is hoped that mutual understanding amongst the different ethnic communities within Malaysia will be promoted.

The organizers also feel that such social issues can be better understood if we examine these issues through a free and open discussion as we are a multi-racial, multi-religious, multi-cultural and multi-sectoral society.

Through attaining a common understanding on such social issues, we hope that a consensus can be reached and any proposed solutions can be acceptable to most, if not all, Malaysians.

Mari-lah sembang-sembang! Come, let's sembang!

Let us better understand one another so that we can build a Malaysia that is just, democratic, progressive and united.
