This is alarming! New research shows that beer contains female hormones...
Yes, that's right, FEMALE hormones!
Last month, Montreal University and scientists released the results of a recent analysis that revealed the presence of female hormones in beer. Men should take a concerned look at their beer consumption.
The theory is that beer contains female hormones (hops contain Phytoestrogens) and that by drinking enough beer, men turn into women.
To test the theory, 100 men each drank 8 schooners of beer within a one (1) hour period.
It was then observed that 100% of the test subjects, yes, 100% of all these men:
1) Argued over nothing.
2) Refused to apologize when obviously wrong.
3) Gained weight.
4) Talked excessively without making sense.
5) Became overly emotional
6) Couldn't drive.
7) Failed to think rationally, and
8) Had to sit down while urinating.
No further testing was considered necessary!

I just had tim sum with a dear girlfriend last Friday morning. Then, she told me she had a lumpectomy and would get her results soon. Hence, Angela's mail today is most timely. Please read this carefully and pass it on if you find value in it. Thanks to Angela for sharing this post.
We all know you should never skip your periodical mamogram, and if you find a suspicious lump in your breast or under your armpit, you should go see a doctor immediately.
But there are other signs but these that may point to breast cancer, and it is extremely important to be knowledgeable about them and be aware of them, because any of the following 7 cases can be a real risk, and if you find them you should consult with a doctor post haste. Remember, early detection can make all the difference.
Breast cancer symptoms
1. A change in the size, form or structure of the breast.
2. A dimple in the breast or a convergence of the skin.
3. Sudden discharge of liquid from the nipple.
4. Itching, irritation or sudden rash on the nipple.
5. Sudden pain at a specific spot that won't go away.
6. The nipple suddenly becoming an 'inny'.
7. Bloating, redness, change of texture or color of the skin on the breast.
The following article is from The Daily Mail. I hope they will also feature one on what men need to know about women.
Excerpt:
You can’t read your man’s mind (however much you try) – but there are other ways to find out how he’s feeling, says marital therapist Andrew G Marshall
There are missing voices in the debate about what makes for good relationships: men’s. Women share their needs but most men remain inscrutably tight-lipped. Fortunately, as a marital therapist, I’ve spent 30 years teasing out men’s feelings and helping them make sense of what they want. By sharing this knowledge, I hope to promote happy, smooth-running relationships. But, just as importantly, if you’ve hit a bad patch, these insights can help explain why your husband has turned into a stranger and stop you descending into crisis.
1. Men outsource their emotions to women
We men have been brought up to act on, rather than examine our feelings. It doesn’t mean that we’re not capable of understanding our emotions but, on the whole, we’ve outsourced their day-to-day management to our wife. She will remind us to phone our mum, interpret what’s going on beneath the surface with our stroppy teenage daughter and come up with a strategy for defusing the rows. And if we have a real problem, such as depression or anxiety attacks, she will flag it up and send us off to one of the army of women in the caring professions.
Dangers of ignoring this truth
What happens if the person we have the problem with is our wife? For example, we’ve slipped down her priority list and feel taken for granted. In an ideal world, we would talk to her, but what if she feels attacked or dismisses our concerns? The typical man shuts down and hopes that if he pretends the problem doesn’t exist, it won’t. As this strategy is doomed to failure, he becomes prone to what seems to be – to his wife at least – irrational anger. What he can’t say, because his wife hasn’t sat down with him and helped him understand, is what he’s annoyed about in particular – for example, her habit of contradicting him in front of the children. But more importantly, he gets annoyed with his wife for not making everything better and therefore not keeping her end of the marriage deal to ‘tend his emotional life’. In the worst cases, he starts talking to a woman at work and awards her the contract instead!

Alice Kober: Unsung heroine who helped decode Linear B
By Alex Gallafent
Linear B is an ancient European Bronze Age script, dating back 3,500 years. When a British architect finally cracked it in the 1950s, he was hailed as a genius - but he may never have succeeded had it not been for a woman on the other side of the Atlantic.
For years, Linear B was seen as the Mount Everest of linguistic riddles.
First discovered on clay tablets at the palace of Knossos in Crete in 1900, it was an unknown script, writing an unknown language.
"It really was the linguistic equivalent of the locked room mystery in a detective novel," says Margalit Fox, author of a new book on Linear B, The Riddle of the Labyrinth.
How do you ever find your way into a seemingly closed system like that? A solution took more than half a century to arrive.
In 1952, a young British architect, Michael Ventris, did discover the meaning of Linear B.
Ventris was the very model of a solitary, tortured genius - so much so that the deciphering of Linear B has often been portrayed as his accomplishment alone.
But some experts now argue that Ventris would never have been able to crack the code, had it not been for an American classicist, Alice Kober.
Discovering Knossos
The palace at Knossos was excavated by British archaeologist Arthur Evans (above) in 1900 - it's bigger than Buckingham Palace.
He discovered thousands of clay tablets inscribed with an unknown script - he called it Linear B
Evans also found tablets showing an older script, which he termed Linear A.
The importance of her contribution has only come to light now that her archives - held at the University of Texas at Austin - have been catalogued.
"Alice Kober is the great unsung heroine of the Linear B decipherment," says Fox.

Have a lovely Friday evening.
Violence against women has always been a problem. Many research studies have shown how rape is an extension of sex role socialization processes where men are encouraged directly and/or indirectly to persist in attempts of sexual intimacy even if the woman has refused. Throughout history, women have been prized possessions either in harems or as concubines or are regarded as prey in times of war. Hence the subjugation of women during chaotic times such as rape in war or the despicable practice of comfort women was prevalent. The difference between then and now is how more are aware of that problem and will not succumb to threats, but fight back even in dangerous circumstances.
A good example is my former student who fought back and escaped when she was the victim of an attempted kidnap last year. Thanks to various quarters including the security management of The Curve, the perpetrator was identified and sentenced recently. Strangely, only one newspaper reported this development.
In sharp contrast, a childhood friend who was molested when she was a primary school student never turned up for the trail and the guy was acquitted due to lack of evidence. I only found out because I was covering court cases then when attending journalism class. I never spoke to her about it but deep inside, I knew that was probably one of the reasons why she had been averse to any relationship. She only married when she was in her early forties. I can imagine the trauma she must have gone through and how painful and difficult was the journey to recovery.
A few years ago, my cousin taught me important basics of self-defense and till today, I still practise the moves, kicks, punches and other manoeuvres, not forgetting the breathing techniques. Of course, some may say it is better to give in and be alive but for me, I would fight tooth and nail even if it means I may lose my life or a limb. Somehow, that knowledge gave me added confidence in this cruel world. Perhaps that is why I let my son pursue wushu classes from a very young age.
Years ago, I was enlightened when attending a course on counselling rape victims that was held in Singapore. Then, some of the speakers were retired police officers, rape victims, counsellors and various leaders from women's organizations. It was then I realized the trauma that a victim goes through.
It was quite similar to research findings I had gathered with two other friends when we were assisting a lecturer to do research on prostitution and its impact on tourism in South-East Asia. My team-mates did the field work whilst I did the data analysis and write-up. Amongst the people interviewed were pimps, prostitutes and also the late Rose Chan when she was ill.
To a very large extent, women are subjugated because of the gender stereotypes that prevail in society via fairy tales, movies, various forms of media including advertisements, music video clips and of course even literature. Of course, some are forced into a life of prostitution via drugs, boyfriends, blackmail, kidnaps, families but there are those who are in it because of their distorted perceptions of love or sex.
I am no prude but I do get quite appalled when I see the photos that some strangers post of themselves via FB and it is not surprising that their followers are 100% male. Whilst I do not subscribe to the idea that women deserve to be raped because of the way they dress, I do believe that women need to uphold their dignity, integrity and honour by their way of life, speech and how they carry themselves in the real world and cyber space.
To me, it is very unhealthy if a woman is validated only because of a man. Without sounding like a feminist or an asexual being, I believe that to rise above all the gender stereotyping that exists in society, women need to realize the need for self-fulfilment and self-actualization on their own. The needy part of women allows them to be victimised, used or whatever but once they realize that there is no need for acceptance or validation by men via the physical route, they are likely to be more driven in other areas of their lives, seeking to achieve goals that they have outlined for themselves.
There have been many occasions when girlfriends grumbled to me about their singlehood and the attempts they made to find someone. I just tell them that one can be happy regardless of marital status! Of course, they object and say it is easy for me to say so as I am married with two boys. However, I know I would still be happy if I chose to be single and celibate! It is all in the mind!
Many problems can be traced back to the the sexual objectification of women which is so prevalent until many women themselves accept it and play by its rules! We see it so often in reality and even in movies, soap operas, songs etc.
According to this site:
Sexual objectification refers to the practice of regarding or treating another person merely as an instrument (object) towards one's sexual pleasure, and a sex object is a person who is regarded simply as an object of sexual gratification. Objectification more broadly is an attitude that regards a person as a commodity or as an object for use, with little or no regard for a person's personality or sentience. Objectification is most commonly examined at a societal level, but can also arise at an individual level.
The concept of sexual objectification and, in particular, the objectification of women, is an important idea in feminist theory and psychological theories derived from feminism. Many feminists regard sexual objectification as objectionable and as playing an important role in gender inequality. Some social commentators, however, argue that some modern women objectify themselves as an expression of their empowerment over men, while others argue that increased sexual freedom for women, gay, and bisexual men has led to an increase of the objectification of men. The idea of sexual objectification has also been an important area of discussion and debate in the area of sexual ethics and the philosophy of sex.
It is time more women's organizations speak up and fight for legislation that forbids such practices, especially in advertising or even in the entertainment industry. When women love themselves more, they will not allow themselves to be objectified, or to be told to cover up or accused of 'asking for trouble' by the way they dress. If in a threatening situation, have the courage to do the needful. Be inspired by what this American sailor did. CLICK HERE to read about it.

A blog that I enjoy reading is Discourse in C#minor at this link. The authoress is a deep thinker who writes with much sincerity and feeling. Honestly, I wish I could write like her. Humble about her abilities, her discourses are varied but interesting. Her latest post is about 'The Death of Marie Colvin' and I am reposting it this evening as a tribute to the late journalist from the UK Sunday Times.
Excerpt:
A little less than a year ago I wrote about a number of women whom I admired over the course of March (Women’s History Month). Two days ago, one of them, Marie Colvin was killed in Syria where she was covering the government-mandated slaughter currently taking place there. This is what I wrote about her in 2011. The whole post is here, if you’re interested.
Marie Colvin is a correspondent for the UK Sunday Times and has been one for over twenty years. She has covered conflicts in the Balkans, Chechnya, East Timor, Israel, Palestine, Iraq, and pretty much anywhere else things are blowing up. She was on CNN reporting from Libya last week. Though I can find tons of her work, I can’t find any biographical profiles. This piece, written in 2000 for the American Journalism Review, and this five-year-old article from the New York Daily News are the best I could do. I love her work because she goes places few will and stays after most leave. Such actions make good copy, but come with some with serious risk to life and limb. In 1999, Ms. Colvin lost her left eye while covering the Sri Lankan civil war in an incident which reads remarkably like a set up. Her work has not gone without recognition. In 2010, Ms. Colvin won the British Press Award for Best Foreign Journalist of the Year.

I will always remember and admire Marie Colvin's courage and perseverance to report truth as it is. May she rest in peace always.
Who do you think is the most beautiful woman on earth or who ever lived on earth?
My vote goes to Audrey Hepburn and Monica Belluci.
My guy friends say I have bad taste and that men look at women differently from ladies.
I can still recall the first time I saw Audrey Hepburn when I was a little girl. Watching 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' impacted me so much that till today, 'Moon River' is a firm favourite. And of all the versions of that song, the one I love best is this one...which still makes my hair stand and all teary even as I type this...As my sons say, there is no hope for hopeless romantics like me...Audrey Hepburn - elegance personified that none can compare....Even if she were to wear a gunny sack, I am sure her beauty would still shine through blazing its rough texture...
Certainly, I was absolutely thrilled to have bought a limited collector's version of 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' a few years ago.
Even as I approach my sunset years, I still gasp in awe when I behold Audrey Hepburn's beauty. Such innocence, character and an impish persona embodied in one whose beauty radiated externally and internally...
As for Monica Belluci, suffice to say I have watched 'Malena', 'Irreversible' because of her captivating beauty.
I am not joking when I say I have three copies of 'Malena' - VCD, DVD and a superior DVD version from overseas. I have a very expensive copy of 'Irreversible' which shot her to fame. CLICK HERE for her wow and *gulp* photos from 'Irreversible'. I can bet that many of you will be hunting for 'Malena' and 'Irreversible' soon!!! CLICK HERE for the best scenes from 'Malena' which I have watched at least thirty times. Do read the comments.
Malèna, a 2000 Italian romantic drama film was directed and written by Giuseppe Tornatore from a story by Luciano Vincenzoni. Giuseppe Tornatore is my favourite director and I think I have all but two of his movies. Monica Belluci - beautiful and oozing with sex appeal, absolutely hot! On a serious note, Malèna is a movie that everyone should watch because of the hidden messages about women that it portrays through the exquisitely beautiful Monica Belluci. And, I am very sure many women out there in this world have gone through what she went through - the utter despair, humiliation, loss of dignity - all because of circumstances, prejudices, sexism, jealousy and the works. Read about it HERE.
Comparatively speaking, she has not aged as well as Audrey Hepburn who had a timeless, ageless beauty. Even when suffering from cancer, she still looked ever so beautiful.
Anyway, you may not share my views...but if you are thinking of who is indeed the most beautiful woman...perhaps you might want to check out the following post which made me rethink my diet and fitness programme again tonight :-)...
And the post is:
50 of the Hottest Women Who Have Posed in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue
So, who do you think is the most beautiful woman?
According to Liz Langley of Alternet:
“Boobies, boobies, boobies. Nothin’ but boobies. Who needs ‘em? I did great without ‘em.” So Neely O’Hara famously said in Valley of the Dolls while eyeballing strip joints. If she could see how much more tit-smitten pop culture has become in last half-century she’d probably need to do another shot, though frankly, if the Venus de Willendorf is any indication, humans have been boob-centric for as long as 25,000 years.
And why not? Breasts enhance the lives of owners and visitors, and you can’t say that any other body part produces food. Still, for all the times you’ve ogled them, snuggled them or ensconced them in a bra that cost more than your Internet bill, what do you really know about breasts?
1. A singular duo. Among humans, some breasts stand out more than others but among animals, humans stand alone. Carole Jahme, the “Evolutionary Agony Aunt,” columnist for the Guardian says that the breasts of the human female are unique among primates in that they grow before we start menstruating, stay full whether we are lactating or not, and stay big after menopause, whereas most primates’ only enlarge when lactating.
There’s an evolutionary reason for our hourglass shape. Jahme writes: “…it has been widely theorised that the plump buttock and bosom of modern women are sexual ornaments, selected for by ancestral males. Seen from a distance the adult female form, either from behind or from the front, can be recognised as distinct from the male of the species. An hourglass figure, plus youthfulness, would have attracted male hominids looking for mating opportunity.”
So maybe that’s the evolutionary reason some women want to have breasts that signal “female” from clear across the Grand Canyon.
2. What are breasts made of?
Food and sex, food and sex…maybe we’re so enamored of breasts because that’s what they’re all about. Discovery Health tells us that the female breast contains 15-25 milk glands connected to milk ducts inside the nipple all held together with fatty and connective tissue (and yes, you can still breastfeed if you have implants). As for the pleasure part, there are thin muscle fibers in the nipples that make them become erect, signaling arousal, and also lots of nerve endings which make them sensitive. New Scientist’s Linda Geddes writes that a 2011 study using MRIs found a direct link between women’s nipples and genitals: when the study subject’s nipples were stimulated, the brain’s sensory cortex area corresponding to the genitals lit up (in addition to the chest area).
It’s a link women knew about long before 2011, but it’s nice to have it on paper.
3. Nip nip hooray!
Since breasts are so fun and fabulous, why stop at two? Some people don’t. Polymastia and polythelia are, respectively, extra breasts and nipples. Diane Mapes of NBC’s The Body Odd writes they’re more common than you might think: about 6% of people have accessory breast tissue and a number of celebs have piped up about their third nipple (which they should really just call a tripple), including Mark Wahlberg, Lily Allen and and Tilda Swinton.
Extra breasts can lactate and respond to regular hormonal fluctuations, i.e., become more sensitive during menstruation which is often the first time women notice it (women are more prone than men, although men also get it).
It’s not all fun, though. Polythelia, according to Medscape, is associated with some health issues, primarily of the urinary tract. Plus it sounds like it could get a little awkward…extra breast tissue usually runs along the “milk line” (armpit to groin) but sometimes shows up in other places. Mapes writes that in 1980, Journal of American Academic Dermatology reported on a 74-year-old man with a female breast on the back of his thigh, and in 1827 it was reported that Therese Ventre of Marseilles had “an extra breast on the outside of her thigh.”
If any man ever grows one in the palm of his hand, a new zillion-dollar-a-year field of plastic surgery will be born. Watch.

As people around the world recognize International Women’s Day, few would claim that women have achieved true parity. There’s still a long way to go before women see anything near equity, even as countries have made slow but steady progress on closing the gender gap in education, economics, health, and politics.
But the facts are there: If we can help women get on equal footing with men, they will help us all, globally, to succeed. Here are just some of the ways women could change the world, if we let them:
If they had equal employment, women could raise every country’s GDP.

According to Eliza Kern of this site:
If we want to change the equation for women in the workplace, then we need to include men too. That’s the message Anne-Marie Slaughter had for the mostly-female crowd at SXSW on Saturday in Austin: Gender equality is up to men, too.
Slaughter made serious waves last summer — a “tsunami,” she actually called it — when she wrote for The Atlantic that “women still can’t have it all.” The article has generated 2 million pageviews so far, and made Slaughter, a Princeton professor and former director of policy under Hillary Clinton at the State Department, somewhat of a touchpoint in the discussion about women’s equality right now. It’s time to stop fooling ourselves, says a woman who left a position of power: the women who have managed to be both mothers and top professionals are superhuman, rich, or self-employed. If we truly believe in equal opportunity for all women, here’s what has to change.

Early years
Lou Salomé was born in St. Petersburg to an army general and his wife. Salomé was their only daughter; she had five brothers. Although she would later be attacked by the Nazis as a "Finnish Jewess," her parents were actually of French Huguenot and Northern German descent.
Seeking an education when she was seventeen Salomé persuaded the Dutch preacher Hendrik Gillot, twenty-five years her senior, to teach her theology, philosophy, world religions, and French and German literature. Gillot became so smitten with Salomé that he planned to divorce his wife and marry her. Salomé and her mother fled to Zurich, so she could acquire a university education. The journey was also intended to be beneficial for Salomé's physical health; she was coughing up blood at this time.
Nietzsche and later life
Salomé's mother took her to Rome, Italy when she was 21. At a literary salon in the city, Salomé became acquainted with Paul Rée, an author and compulsive gambler with whom she proposed living in an academic commune. After two months, the two became partners. On 13 May 1882, Rée's friend Friedrich Nietzsche joined the duo. Salomé would later (1894) write a study, Friedrich Nietzsche in seinen Werken, of Nietzsche's personality and philosophy.[3] The three travelled with Salomé's mother through Italy and considered where they would set up their "Winterplan" commune. Arriving in Leipzig, Germany in October, Salomé and Rée separated from Nietzsche after a falling-out between Nietzsche and Salomé, in which Salomé believed that Nietzsche was desperately in love with her. In 1884 Salomé became acquainted with Helene von Druskowitz, the second woman to receive a philosophy doctorate in Zurich.
A fictional account of Salomé's relationship with Nietzsche is described in Irvin Yalom's novel, When Nietzsche Wept. A biography in Swedish on Lou Salomé, which also covers her relationship with Paul Rée, Rainer Maria Rilke, Friedrich Nietzsche and Sigmund Freud was edited in 2008 on Mita bokförlag by the Swedish author Mirjam Tapper. The title of the book is "Den blonda besten hos Nietzsche - Lou Salomé".
Marriage and relationships
Salomé and Rée moved to Berlin and lived together until a few years before her celibate marriage to linguistics scholar Friedrich Carl Andreas. Despite her opposition to marriage and her open relationships with other men, Salomé and Andreas remained married from 1887 until his death in 1930. The distress caused by Salomé's co-habitation with Andreas caused the morose Rée to fade from Salomé's life despite her assurances. Throughout her married life, she engaged in affairs or/and correspondence with the German journalist Georg Lebedour, the German poet Rainer Maria Rilke, on whom she wrote an analytical memoir, the psychoanalysts Sigmund Freud and Viktor Tausk, among others. Accounts of many of these are given in her volume Lebensrückblick.
Her relationship with Rilke was particularly close. Salomé was fifteen years his senior. They met when he was 21, were lovers for several years and correspondents until Rilke's death; it was Salome who began calling him Rainer rather than René. She taught him Russian, in order to read Tolstoy (whom he would later meet) and Pushkin. She also introduced him to patrons and other people in the arts, remaining his advisor, confidante and muse throughout his adult life.
