In many ways you are right. The author of the slides probably did not want to scare us too much into passivity instead of mobilizing us to move in the right direction.
Personally, I believe that the greater part of mankind will be wiped out by the nuclear holocaust and that it will be a whole new scenario that may not be too pleasing - such as the one you aptly described.
Me thinks you are a sci-fi fan :-).
Nonetheless, I believe if the nuclear holocaust does not happen, we will kill ourselves with toxic waste and toxins in our food, not forgetting pollution.
So sorry - what a morbid thought on a Monday lol!
Yet, we have to be realistic, right?

ocho-onda I think that is a rather optimistic portrayal - that is a very probable scenario if we survived the nuclear holocaust and if so, I doubt people will live past their 30th birthday in the year 2070!
Another probable scenario will be that of Earth being totally inhospitable and will become a toxic dumping wasteland with human colonies sprouting all over on the Moon and on other Man-made spheroids orbiting Earth !
