MEDALS

The following poem which Tony, a blog reader from UK, sent to me. It is a very beautiful and moving poem and I would like to dedicate it to all who fought for their countries, especially those who perished at the battlefield. May their souls rest in peace and may their families be blessed always. Thanks Tony!

Have a lovely evening!

Medals

Don’t envy a man his medals

All those ribbons on his chest

He did not try to get them

They’re not there at his request

They were earned in stinking hell holes

Where no man would like to go

Or in cold and wintery places

Where there’s only ice and snow

He did not know he earned them

Till they were awarded at parade

And they were bright when he first got them

But in time the colours fade

He was told he had to wear them

And to wear them all with pride

But when the memories come to haunt him

Those same medals make him hide

Cause those medals will not bring back

All those guys he left behind

And he would trade them all for ever

For a little piece of mind

So don’t envy a man his medals

You don’t want to take his place

Thinking back to long gone battles

And meeting dead friends face to face.

nick For those who fought and bled for the country, a medal awarded is neither craved nor shun. But to our corrupt politician who fought tooth and nail for position, bled financially to bribe ( no worries cos they will always get much more anyway),a Dato'. Tan Sri and a TUN is akin to the badge of honor ( if you're a pirate and thief that is!).

Sis, have you heard the story of the Japanese company holding a seminar attended by many Malaysian corporate figures? Well, the story goes that the majority of those Malaysian "businessman/ corporate figures" are highly "decorated".. most of them have Dato' in front of their name, many had Tan Sri and Tun. Those Japanese guys were impressed by the attendance of so many well known malaysian businessman to say the least. So at last, the list of attendee was completed and there were so many dato and Tan sri and tun in the list that it's a rarity to find even 3 names that has no 'award" eclipsing their born with names. So on the day of the seminar, the hotel lobby was full of these VIP businessman loitering around mingling with each other ( maybe exchanging story of bribes, abuses or mistresses..who knows;)? I digress, back to the story... Well, with so many honored personage attending the seminar it was clear to the Japanese in order to "save the face" of their honored attendees, the VIP seating are to be allocated to those amongst them, not to some brainless ministers or his deputies..." Why waste space for an airhead"?...logic tells the Japanese... So perusing through the list, they were very, very pleased to see three name that suits the very description of VVIP ( and there were 3 seat reserved anyway). And speaking over the PA system they began announcing the name of the three VVIP who was to take the honored chair in the front of the hall. And Guess what? The Japanese people actually picked the three names of ordinary guy who didn't have any Dato', Tan Sri or Tun, none what so ever! The Japanese mind is so simple and practical... WHEN their list is full of attendees who have Dato's, Tan Sris and TUN, it will be only logical to assume that someone WITHOUT any title ( a rarity) will be the most highly respected and honored guest. AND BASICALLY THE JAPANESE GUYS WERE RIGHT ALL ALONG COS THE MAJORITY OF THOSE DATO'S, TAN SRIS AND TUN WERE CROOKS ANYWAY.... MORAL OF THE STORY IS "ONLY IN MALAYSIA DOES CROOKS AND CRIMINALS GIVEN AWARD, TITLE AND IMMUNITY FROM THE LAW AND A MALAYSIAN TITLE IS A DIME A DOZEN... TO PUT IT PLAINLY "WORTHLESS"!
( Just imagine Sis, if I were to write this in the new EU sanctioned and simplified English, I won't be finish until the next Budget tabling...LOL!). Have a nice weekend Sis!

    Hamba.

    Unknown Dear Nick,

Thanks for your very sincere and insightful comment. I am truly blessed to know a blog reader such as you who is willing to sacrifice his Saturday morning to share his thoughts with us in cyberspace.

What you have shared is so important and reinforces my first post for Saturday - that we need integrity, not a show of titles of fat bank accounts.

You are a wise person and your family, friends, my blog readers and yours truly here - we are blessed to know you or to know of you.

Malaysians need more people like you.

Take care and have a good weekend.

    Salam,
    mws
