WHERE ARE WE GOING, MALAYSIA?

Posted by Unknown On Tuesday, December 29, 2009 10 comments
The year is coming to an end. So much has happened, especially in Malaysia, and I guess many would share the view that there have been more than our fair share of challenges this year. Naturally, many would be at their wits' ends wondering about resolutions for themselves.

What about for our country?

I think the most important thing for all Malaysians at this point is to ensure that ALL ELIGIBLE MALAYSIANS MUST REGISTER AS A VOTER AND VOTE AT THE NEXT GE.

Secondly, by 2012, 65% of our population will be youth, if we current follow demographic trends. This means that those of us who work with young people, yuppies, especially those below 35 years of age, MUST lobby a lot. This segment of the population is vital if we want to effect change. Political parties concerned and their leaders MUST engage the young people and recruit them.

Thirdly, young people MUST be groomed even NOW to take over leadership positions in the government. They have to be knowledgeable, tech savvy, bold, courageous, visionary etc. Singapore is a fine example of how young people have been active in politics - and we are talking about those who, despite their tender years, are already MPs and making waves!!! Malaysians can do even better because we have a bigger base from which we can make a selection.

Fourthly, as concerned Malaysians, we need to raise awareness by spreading legitimate awareness of issues in the many avenues available to effect that change and to be more persuasive. Generally, emotional appeals are less persuasive but objective opinions that consider both views would be more effective. We do not have to worry because the facts speak for themselves.

There is so much more that I can talk about in this post but I am always reminded by my dearest Angela to observe brevity...so I will conclude by saying that even though 2009 is coming to an end, it marks a new beginning for us for in 2010, I am sure, even MORE will happen.

To steal a phrase from Lord Baden- Powell:

Let us BE PREPARED!!! Take care, dear reader, friend, Malaysian. I bid you a wonderful end to 2009 and a blessed 2010. Keep safe, be happy and spread a little love and kindness around....Here's an inspirational piece to keep you going...

If you woke up this morning with more health than illness..........you are more blessed than the million who will not survive this week.

If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation.......you are ahead of 500 million people in the world.

If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof overhead and a place to sleep...you are richer than 75% of this world.

If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish someplace....... you are among the top 8% of the world's wealthy.

If your parents are still alive and still married........you are very rare, even in the United States.

If you hold up your head with a smile on your face and are truly thankful.....you are blessed because the majority can, but most do not.

If you prayed yesterday and today........you are in the minority because you believe God does hear and answer prayers.

If you can read now, you are more blessed than over two billion people in the world that cannot read at all.

    A Arthur Dear MWS,

Yes it is very important for eligible young voters to go and register themselves.

So to every friends of my children, immaterial of race, I will ask them whether they have registered themselves to vote for the coming election. If they have not then they receive a ticking from me. And I always remember the next time when I meet them i will ask the same question. HAVE YOU REGISTERED YOURSELF AS A VOTER?

It is commendable that you bring this up at the final days of 2009 and I hope that we can remind as many people as possible to register themselves as voters.

A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY

    nick Hi Sis,

Year 2009 is coming to a close and a new year is approaching. You're right when you say that a lot more will happen. I'm just hoping something good will happen more often in the year 2010.

So far a lot of bad things happen to our country. A lot of scandals, misappropriation and theft. By the look of it, Malaysia is heading towards a disaster and possibly bankruptcy. Things doesn't look good for us, to tell you the truth.

HOWEVER, one redeeming thing about Malaysia this past year is that we as a nation exhibit the signs of waking up. We might not be fully awake yet but that's better than being asleep and oblivious of the danger ahead.

It is my hope and dream that we as a nation will be fully awaken in this coming year. Wide awake and with eyes wide open. To be prepared for the coming GE and to at last remove the shackle of race politic and reject UMNO and BN.

It a wonderful dream and I truly wish it will happen in my life time (for all of our children sake). Keep on hoping, believing and effecting change. Sis. It's a noble dream and one day it will come true!

Wishing you and all Malaysian a happy new year. May GOD bless us all and this wonderful country as well!

    Hamba.

QQ We should be careful not to grow complacent when things seem to be going smoothly.

I hope all of us have the most wonderful and meaningful holiday season, and that we will usher in the New Year safely and in good health.

Anonymous All Malaysians are duty bound to help each other to achieve a better life in our country. With the performance of the UMNO/BN for the last 52 years, especially the last 28 years, the country has been raped by politicians and their cronies. You know how arrogant they are, let us have a look....

Please start now, if 10 of us can each get 10 we will have 100 and if each of the hundred gets 10 we will have 1000. If we keep going, we will reach more than 10M active Malaysians to force a change. This is a legacy we must give our children/grandchildren, they deserve better. The alternative is too horrendous to look at....

    Nameless Fool Hi Kak Wordsmith,
One of my New Year's Resolutions is raising political/governance awareness among my peers so that they know what they want in this country, and so they know they're capable of making the change.
Meh, at least I'll get some fellow young people to vote while I'm still too young to do so (by a few months? I'll turn 21 only in May 2012)... elections take place in March, right?

Big bro will register to vote.
He, my lil bro and I have watched the vid of Raja Petra's dream for Malaysians.
It's the tiny bits in society that make the big systems work.

Younger bro has friends commenting - plus voicing their discontents - on the current (pathetic?) state of the education system and the teaching language reverts. This incident shows signs of hope to me.
[He got 7As like lots of other kids around this country but I stick to the fact that goalposts can easily be moved around; mom told'im SPM is more important huhu]

A happy New Year to thee, and wishes that this will be better than the last. :)

Anonymous We live in a time of unprecedented accelerated change which is unnerving and surrealistic for many people.

Last year, 2008, started unexpectedly with the watershed GE, but ended with the global financial crisis.

This year, 2009, which is ending soon is really turbulent indeed for Malaysia and the world.

Next year, 2010, is the year of the tiger:

    http://www.chiff.com/a/chinese-horoscopes.htm

"The year of the Tiger is traditionally associated with massive changes and social upheaval. Therefore, 2010 is very likely to be a volatile one both on the world scene, as well as on a personal level."

"Those born under other signs will suffer, by degree, depending on how flexible they are to change. Those who can keep a steady hand on the helm may be shaken, but undeterred by the typically thunderous events foreseen in any Tiger year."

"May you live in interesting times" is euphemistically referred to as the Chinese curse:

    http://www.thetruthseeker.co.uk/article.asp?ID=108

"But sometimes the most difficult times are the most interesting and the most rewarding too. They challenge us, they test us, and occasionally they can even bring out the best in us. So the saying was as much a blessing as a curse. And the times we are living in are nothing if not interesting. To fully appreciate that one has to look beyond the mainstream media, because once you do a whole new landscape emerges, one that is distinctly different from the world as portrayed by our “free press.”"

So, look forward to 2010 for a new beginning for Malaysia and the world.

    Dear Nick

My deepest appreciation to you for your very sincere response and sentiments expressed.

I feel very encouraged after reading what you wrote. Frankly, I felt pretty down as I assessed the events for 2009 and your are right in saying that all the bovine stuff that has been happening truly stirred many to a political consciousness that is quite strong now...

May God help us and our nation to move into a period of peace and greater blessings. I know it sounds like a tall order but I am sure if we all play our paart, we can expect to see miracles!
