THE MCA CHESS GAME

Posted by Unknown On Saturday, March 6, 2010 53 comments
Let's face it. MCA President Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat is fast losing his grip on MCA. His foes have strategically cornered him in a checkmated position with few allies who are standing with him. His greater unity plan is in shambles as his supposed rival cum friend Deputy President Chua Soi Lek resigned unexpectedly together with seven of his elected central committee supporters. Fresh polls are to be held at the end of this month. The question is - has it been worth it for him to engage in this one-year battle with Chua? Where is MCA today? Torn and tattered, desperate and divided, the party has now broken up into different factions and groups, each probably with allegiance to different leaders.

Is this the party that is 61 years old and once-upon-a-time defended the interests of the Chinese community? Sadly, yes. They are a pale shadow of what it used to be.

If you have been following the news, it is obvious that the king-makers and forces at work here are both from internal and external sources.

Is it a coincidence that Chua and his magnificent seven plus the thirteen from Liow's side total up to the two-thirds of the party's Central Committee members? Lim Kit Siang said HERE that puppet masters are behind the resignations. Is it a coincidence that the PM is also not attending the AGM tomorrow?

What else has been happening?

Malaysiakini reported HERE that the MCA Youth Wing annual general meeting (AGM) was boycotted by the bulk of party delegates as only a handful showing up. The meeting, held at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur, was to begin at 9am but no more than 10 of the 1,742 delegates could be seen at the venue by that time. At the same time, the Wanita AGM at Wisma MCA was attended by 350 delegates - about one-fifth of the 2,037 representatives. Most obvious was the absence of all the wing's top leaders, including women's chief Chew Mei Fun. These two events alone foreshadow the doomed fate of OTK.

Another report by Malaysiakini HERE outlines the soap opera style of the Wanita AGM. Excerpt from Malaysiakini:

The meeting turned emotional at one point when one of its central committee member, Chong Sau Chan from Perak, started crying on the stage, causing all other members to sob.

“I am very sad that such thing has happened to us in MCA. This thing shouldn't have happened,” Chong said.

The delegates present even claimed that there was an attempt to sabotage the meeting by locking the secretariat room by Chew's faction aimed at denying them access to the facilities and the secretary-general's reports kept in the room.

Another report HERE outlines weaknesses in the leadership style of OTK which has led to the current pathetic state of affairs. I am not going to waste my time writing about it. The writing is on the wall. MCA has almost expired and if such internal squabbles exist, if indeed there are hands that are moving pawns and main players in this chess game, this party is no longer able to defend the interests of the Chinese community. PERIOD. In fact, their shelf-life expired long ago and were surviving on oxygen tanks provided by unseen forces.

The leaders should just dissolve the party, forget about MCA and join one of the Pakatan Rakyat component parties IF they are serious about the well-being of both the Chinese community and Malaysia as a whole. Otherwise, all that is unfolding before us is not only shocking but utterly disgraceful.

End the chess game NOW. However, we know this will never happen because too much is at stake. For them, that is, not for us!!

Ckw It gets better each day with MCA's soap opera, even more sensational than the Cantonese classic serials on TV!

I, for one, cannot be bothered or care what happens with MCA.

As it is, MCA is actually a party for some rich Chinese towkays and towkay wannabes.

Just look at the current crop of people at the helm, and you'll agree with me!

If UMNO is a party noted for its corrupt cronies, then surely MCA is no better!

Anonymous You said : The leaders should just dissolve the party, forget about MCA and join one of the Pakatan Rakyat component parties.

    How can? Cannot, cannot, cannot!

Then, you tell me, where to put Ong Tee Keat, Chua Soi Lek, Liow Tiong Lai, Ong Ka Chuan, Ng Yen Yen?

Remember, all the above 5 VIPs have hinted that they want to be the President?

You can't possibly create so many president posts, can you?

I am glad that you picked that up!

It baffles me how grown men and women can cry so readily at the snap of a finger.

We will never know the real motive but one thing is for sure - the coincidence is too good to be true.

Take care and thanks for sharing.

If ever they decide to give up their political career, these leaders could try scriptwriting for Hong Kong TVB Cantonese serials as the drama played live before us oozes with the makings of a blockbuster in cable tv!

I do agree with your comments. As it stands, the whole situation is disgraceful!

Thanks for your honest and sincere comments. Take care and God bless you and yours always.

Anonymous Almost expired? You kidding me? MCA’s expiry date was 08 Mar 2008.

Sweetheart, to those who still reminisce the “good old MCA, MIC, UMNO days” are obviously still living in the past. MCA Race-based political parties are deader than dead. Malaysia will NEVER move forward and join the community of developed nations if we continue to think MCA, MIC or UMNO. These three political parties are fundamentally destructive to the welfare and economic future of our country.

The war of independence that MCA, MIC and UMNO once fought as brothers is over. It is time to disband.

Yes indeed! How could I forget that the magnificent five are in a tussle for President?

Unless they are ready to humble themselves to be ordinary members, there may be no place for them in PR.

Enjoy the weekend and God bless!

Welcome back! Lovely to hear from you again. How I have missed your sharp comments.

:-) Actually, later on in the same paragraph, I said that their shelf-life expired long ago and that they are surviving on oxygen tanks from unseen forces.

Thank you for your well-written analysis of the three BN component parties. Indeed you are right. It IS time for them to disband and it is curtain call for them. However, they are still fighting on to hang on to the last vestige of power that they can grab with no consideration for our well-being...

    And that is most disconcerting.

Take care and do keep in touch. Enjoy the rest of the evening.

cks Chua Soi Lek and Liow Tiong Lai are mere puppets of UMNO. Ong Tee Keat is ditched by UMNO because of his insistence on investigating the PKFTZ fiasco.

Wake up! MCA members and central delegates. If you have any dignity left, stop living at the pleasure of UMNOputras. Ditch Chua, Liow and their gangs. Start your own REFORMASI movement from within, vote OTK or elect a new leader to lead MCA with a renewed cause with honour. Otherwise leave MCA/BN to join PR or become PR-friendly.

But sometimes, things are not as simple as they appear to be...

  1. says:

Kampung Girl Whoever becomes the president of MCA will suffer the humiliation of total rejection by the Chinese Malaysians in the next election.
MCA can no longer claim to represent the Chinese Malaysians any more.
Suffice to say, MCA is evidently no longer relevant in the Malaysian politics!

  1. says:

Ex-MCA man UMNO has spoken (loud and clear) that Ong Tee Kiat has to be ousted at all costs.
It's widely believed that the day Ong Tee Keat allowed the dirt from the PKFZ saga to float into the open was the day he signed his own death warrant.
So, it isn't at all surprising if Najib is not attending the MCA's AGM tomorrow.

  1. says:

Anonymous Step 1 = Liow conspired with Ong to oust Chua
Step 2 = Ong conspired with Chua to oust Liow
Step 3 = Chua conspired with Liow to oust Ong

    Result :

Liow + Ong + Chua = Circus CLOWNS

  1. says:

A Arthur MCA, once the second strongest component party in BN, is in total disarray and is more like Malaysian Circus Association, the difference is that the Circus Master is not in control of his animals and his circus acrobatics, clowns, dwarfs, dare-devil riders, jugglers, tight-rope walkers, the side-kicks and all the roustabouts.

The internecine intra-party fighting and the eagerness of its top echelon leaders wanting to oust each other make headlines on the online media for all the wrong reasons, though the STAR has suppressed most of the brouhaha in its print media.

But MCA still has assets worth Rm2.0 over billion accumulated over the years and the spoils of the war are lucrative enough for most of its members to come scrambling over each other skeletons to come out top. If the war chest is bare, nobody will give two hoots.

OTK is a maverick, not a leader per se. He can be a fine Youth Leader, a second or third liner in command of the whole political machine, but not the Chief Sitting Bull. As the MCA chief, instead of consolidating and regrouping MCA in the light of its heavy losses in the last general election, his priority was to rid CSL and thereby opened himself to too many fronts to fight a focused and strategic war within his own circle. He also thought that hitting hard on PKFZ would be his crowning moment that would endear him to the nation, its rakyat and BN but as a politician he should be wiser than that as there are too many dirty hands in the pie and there are many dark forces who would like to deep-six PKFZ.

He opened up a can of worms and now these worms are all crawling over his body.

During the Chinese New Year period OTK was also busy front-paging himself on a wheel-chair in the STAR to gain some public sympathy. Once was good enough, too many pictures appearing that he was putting on a brave front in spite of his poor ambulatory movement, would just be another dog and pony show. Nobody will buy that, Mr OTK.

But the greatest mistake he made was his own verbosity when he loudly announced before hand that he would quit following the no confidence vote against him and he backpedalled on his decision.

Politics is a fluid zero-sum game. It is war without blood. Some one wins some one must lose. A win-win situation is only good on paper so that the winner gives the apparent loser some saved face. A personal vendetta is the worse as it is emotional, self-gratifying and do not contribute any good to the welfare of the political organization. Maybe OTK has not heard of the Italian proverb before, “If you want to take revenge, first you must dig two graves.”

CSL is by far the most astute of all the politicians in MCA. He never die and he never even fade away even though someone in the MCA did him a big number. His porn star status will always be the albatross round his neck. How can he have the moral fiber to lead MCA when he was caught on video pussy-footing around, betrayed his family and lost the respect of the community. Well, he may have the hide of a pachyderm but MCA would forever be a laughing stock when the leader himself has lost its moral and ethical compass.

  1. says:

A Arthur LTL, the Brutus and the Wang Jingwei of MCA, is another politician who made all the wrong moves in the wrong timing. All Chinese hate a traitor who backstabbed on his mentor and his Sifu. He thought that with so many bruised and wounded top leaders around he could make his gambit to come up top. But the Alphasud MPV car for his wife paid through by another company made him so stupid and so naïve as to accept bribery in this form. Mr LTL, you must be born yesterday. Even a kid will tell you to pay him cash, no trace, no audit, no paper trail, no nothing.

How can he lead MCA when he even does not have the shrewdness and cunningness to hide his venality over the car?

WKS, the pathetic cry-baby thought that he could pull wool over the public by crying in front of the camera that his beloved MCA is in shambles. As the Chief of Youth Wing, he has never uttered any strong condemnation on PKFZ, as he is in it thick and thin. One would have thought that the Youth Chief should be full of brimstone and fire, zeal and enthusiasm, street demonstrations and wringing elbows with other Youth Chiefs and to show the rakyat a thing or two that the Youth Wing is a fiery band, no fear or favor in bringing up current issues that affect the welfare of the nation. But WKS is only scheming on how to topple OTK so that PKFZ is no more.

WKS together with CMF and LTL they formed the perfect Three Stooges of Larry, Curly and Moe, except that CMF is gonna be a woman.

So far Dr Ng Yen Yen has played all the right cards by never showing her hand till the last moment when the political wind has momentarily settled and when she knew, at least for a short while, which way it is blowing. Perhaps she may lead MCA forward.

Anyway, the Chinese still need MCA as a lone voice in BN, no matter how pathetic. If the Chinese are all represented by DAP, Malaysia would really be a polarized society where there will be no peace, at least for a long time. It will be Malays vs Chinese and Muslims vs Non-Muslims.

Pakatan is still nascent and PKR is currently shaken to its core by its current mass resignation.

    Think about it….

  1. says:

Kenneth Do you think that Umno leaders are waiting to get involved in MCA's internal fairs?
If they are, then do you think the Chinese community will have concrete evidence that MCA is but an Umno lapdog?

  1. says:

So Sad Ong Tee Keat is in deep trouble as Najib has refused to attend the MCA AGM as the traditionally principal guest of honour (in his capacity as Head of the BN coalition) to open the meeting for its ally.

Najib’s decision is unprecedented and unequivocally, blatantly anti- Ong Tee Keat as the president of MCA.

    So sad.
