BET YOU DID NOT KNOW THIS!

Being an environmentalist at heart, it is only natural that one of my favorite sites is Monga Bay - Developed by Rhett A. Butler, Mongabay.com seeks to raise interest in and appreciation of wild lands and wildlife, while examining the impact of emerging trends in climate, technology, economics, and finance on conservation and development. Mongabay.com aims to raise interest in wildlife and wildlands while promoting awareness of environmental issues. Originally the site was based around a text on tropical rainforests that he developed four year period (1996-2000), but today the site has expanded to other topics.

This evening, I came across this article in Monga Bay which almost broke my heart. The excerpt is taken from HERE and after reading it, please visit the site to see the many spectacular photos and do the needful to voice your concerns.

Excerpt from Monga Bay:

With the world's eyes on the environmental catastrophe in the Gulf of Mexico, many are beginning to ponder the rightness of not just America's, but the world's dependence on fossil fuels. Yet large-scale fossil-fuel energy projects continue to march ahead, including one in the Malaysian state of Sabah on Borneo to build a 300 MW coal plant, which has come under fierce opposition from locals (already the project has been forced to move locations twice). The newest proposal will build the coal plant, as photos below reveal, on an undeveloped beach overlooking the Coral Triangle, one of the world's most biodiverse marine environments, with transmission lines likely running through nearby pristine rainforest that are home to several endangered species, including orangutans and Bornean rhinos.

A group of NGOs that oppose the coal plant, known as Green SURF (Sabah Unite to Re-power the Future), warn that the plant will come with a host of environmental problems, including discharges of chlorine and sulfates into the ocean, sulfur dioxide emissions that could cause acid rain, thermal pollution, and the need for new transmission lines, infrastructure, and cargo to carry coal from mines south in Kalimantan. Green SURF has recently conducted an energy audit that showed Sabah has the capacity to develop cost-competitive power needs from a variety of other non-fossil fuel options, including palm oil biomass, solar, and hydrological.

Click HERE for the rest of the entry and to view the amazing pristine beauty of the area which might be lost!

Anonymous After reading the whole story on Monga Bay, I was travelling back to the time where my family and I enjoyed the serene sea around Pulau Tioman. We went out snorkeling and the sight of corals and colourful life sea water fishes were just so beautiful.

Imagine the area around the Sipidan island where some divers claim it to be the world's foremost diving paradise. So rich in coral and diverse marine life. No wonder some called it paradise on earth. But our politicians know little of the love for environment and their only concern is whether their bank account can last them seven generation.

Their greeds know no bound and they are selling our country's asset for a song. Every conceivable project must be of national impact and has immediate maximum return. May I suggest that we get back at them within the confine of the law. When Pakatan is in Putra, enact a new law with long arm to bring all these scums of the earth to face justice.

My dream will be by then I will volunteer to be the hang man and or the firing squad hitman. These scums must pay through their teeth and will bill their next of kin for the hang rope or bullets used. Just like what China is doing to their traitors. My pay can be RM1 per month and imagine the joy of seeing these creatures die.

Even Bakun itself has has causes untold misery to the local tribal people of over tens of thousand and bankrupted so many companies. Yet the govt never learned and just continue the culture of bailout, one after another. For they know that with the mandate from the people they are given the right to rule even though the percentage was just over 55% or so. Let us voice out our displeasure and support those NGOs' that are fighting against this project and many others as well. Hope that Sabahan will wake up to reality the bn are just like a leech sucking the blood of all and sundry till it is fully satisfied. Just send them out to pasture, will you ?

Starmandala This is what happens when myopic and megalomaniacal men opt to consider their own extravagant lifestyles above life itself. These are their final days on earth. Our Grand Old Lady is preparing to destroy Industrial Civlization!

You are spot on in saying that there are those who love $$ more than the environment and their greed knows no bound. Our natural resources are being destroyed/sold for a song while in some areas, sold for too much but the $$ is not going back to the rakyat. I sincerely hope that if and when PR governs the country, there will be a change in the way Mother Nature is protected and managed. Guilty ones must be punished and taken to task. Thank you for being a caring Malaysian, ahoo. God bless you for your sensitivity to the bleeding needs of this country. Take care and thanks for sharing.

    Shalom

Very true! They have to be prepared to face the wrath of Mother nature when things go awry due to their irresponsible acts.

Take care and have a great weekend.

She is merely attempting to do that fat lady song at the end of the opera.

The ground has long been prepared for her through the umno racist, fascist and feudalistic ideology of 53 years which saw to the death of the country's moral compass and propriety - leaving only the hollow form of (all)things as substitute.

I just hope I won't be around when she sings her last song!

At the rate they are destroying Mother Nature, the end could come sooner than expected.

And this must not be allowed to happen!
