LET'S SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT!

Free Malaysia Today carried an article HERE where BN state secretary Dr Hilmi Yahaya blamed the loss of confidence in the political leadership and the socio-economic climate for dwindling foreign direct investments (FDI) in Penang. He cited lack of new factories and the dearth of re-investments by existing foreign multi-national companies (MNCs) attested to this.

In that article, Dr. Hilmi pointed out that foreign investments in Penang went down from RM10.2 billion in 2008 to RM2.2 billion last year.

The Malaysian Insider carried an article HERE where Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said that Penang’s foreign investments from March 2008 to December 2009 registered around RM9 billion.

Penang has only recorded RM100 million in the first two months this year, said Hilmi, compared with BN-led Perak which attracted nearly a billion ringgit in FDI.

Well, on the 13th of March 2010, MP for Taiping Nga Kor Ming wrote THIS in his blog:

Ever since coup-de ta taken place at Perak, the FDI in the state had dropped 600% from RM2.4 billion in 2008 to RM399 million in 2009. The silver state sees a mediocre performance by approving only 47 projects throughout the whole year.

However, Zamry & Co still issued false and misleading statement that boasted Perak had attracted RM11.6 billion in 2009 which is clearly misleading and a total lie.

In view of the fact such misleading statement will affect the government’s integrity, Perak DAP demanded BN to issue an open apology to the rakyat of Perak.

Hilmi, who is also the Teluk Bahang state assemblyman, alleged that the statistics speaks for itself on the effect of foreign investors' confidence a particular government and he chided Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng's administration for not being up to the mark in wooing foreign investors. He also rebuked Lim's government for claiming credit for other people's sweat, alleging that the 2008 investments were actually the result of the previous BN administration's hard work. You can CLICK HERE to read the article from FMT.

Perhaps Dr. Hilmi might want to download THIS pdf file HERE that outlines the achievements of the Penang state government under PR. The latest statistics (accurate ones!) are available in the pdf file.

Dr. Hilmi said that Intel Malaysia, a major long-time investor in Penang, for instance has closed down several manufacturing plants in Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Zone (FIZ) in recent months and shifted operations to the Kulim Hi-Tech Park in Kedah. While that is the truth, the move by Intel is NOT RELATED to their lack of confidence in Penang.

The Star reported HERE:

In a statement released Thursday from its Santa Clara, California office, the company said the plans were part of the company’s move to restructure some of its manufacturing operations and align its manufacturing capacity to current market conditions.
..........
Apart from the two test facilities in Penang, Intel will also close one plant in Cavite in the Philippines and will halt production at a water fabrication facility in Hillsboro, Oregon in the United States

On political front, Hilmi claimed that BN's chances of recapturing Penang from Pakatan's grasp were increasing by the day. He said the Malay and Indian voters are returning to the BN fold and it was now the matter of wooing back the Chinese voters. He said that they had to get down to the ground often to disseminate the correct information and explain issues to the grassroots. Well that is true. If he had been speaking to the layman everyday, he would know the feelings of many Penangites. And if he had been attending ceramahs or forums held by the state government, I am sure he would be quite surprised to know the feelings at the ground level.

Perhaps then, he may not be so confident that BN can recapture Penang from Pakatan's grasp.

What do you think? Do air your views. Thanks! Have a nice day.

katdog I await the UMNO-BN government to end subsidies and introduce GST.

Then lets see the blind arrogant UMNO men talk.

After 30 years of the country being administered by these men, our country is now faced with bankruptcy despite our huge wealth from oil. And they still strut around boasting about their achievements?

Obviously these UMNO men are suffering from the Dunning-Kruger effect

Lovely to hear from you again. Thank you so much for your sharp comment and link.

The Dunning-Kruger effect is the perfect diagnosis for their condition!

Thanks so much for sharing about it. I found it very interesting and most enlightening.

Indeed it is saddening that the rakyat have not enjoyed the profits harvested from our country's natural resources and even more maddening to know that even with imminent bankruptcy in the horizon, these characters have the audacity to proclaim themselves as saints to deliver us!

Truly, may the rakyat awaken to rise and effect change.

Thanks for sharing. Do keep in touch.

    Have a pleasant evening.

I am glad the authorities reduced his sentence. If he had lost his seat, there would have been serious consequences in the by-election...And BN cannot afford another loss. The risk is definitely too high in Batu!

    :-)

Anonymous Hilmi is typically boasting about 53 years of successful re-colonisation and stupefaction of Penangites. He thinks that the good times(for bumno) can last forever!

Anonymous Many of us who are without the Dr tag know the ground better than this flyer leh. If he had not spoken as such, we would not have known his IQ nor EQ loh.

In any case, people in EC dept. are delibrately slowing down the process of voters registration. Recently, 60,000 were added as Malaysians in the northen state for those born as siamese. Hope that figure was not added into the Pearl of Orient.

This Dr may be in summer camp for all we know and summer started early for him this year. Or could still be in slumber land after 53 year of rent seeking. As PM said, the next election will be a BIG surprise now that his ratings is so so high (72%, betul kah?). The higher is one's dream, the greater will be that fall, hopefully there are enough big fellows down there to cushion such a fall.

Once again, many thanks for bringing to remembrance issues that should be of top priority. We have to be very careful when scrutinizing statements from the other side and to try to read in between the lines for any hidden messages and what these may mean in the future.

Real brainwork is needed here lest we fall prey to the wrong messages!

Take care and thanks for sharing.

    Cheers
