THE YEAR 1906
This will boggle your mind, I know it did mine! The year is 1906. More than one hundred years ago. What a difference a century makes! Here are some statistics for the Year 1906 :
The average life expectancy was 47 years.
Only 14 percent of the homes had a bathtub.
Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone.
.
There were only 8,000 cars and only 144 miles
of paved roads.
The maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph.
The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower!
The average wage in was 22 cents per hour.
The average worker made between $200 and $400 per year .
A competent accountant could expect to earn $2000 per year, a dentist $2,500 per year, a veterinarian between $1,500 and $4,000 per year, and a mechanical engineer about $5,000 per year.
More than 95 percent of all births took place at HOME .
Ninety percent of all doctors had NO COLLEGE EDUCATION! Instead, they attended so-called medical schools, many of which were condemned in the press AND the government as "substandard."
Sugar cost four cents a pound.
Eggs were fourteen cents a dozen.
Coffee was fifteen cents a pound.
Most women only washed their hair once a month, and used borax or egg yolks for shampoo.
Canada passed a law that prohibited poor people from entering into their country for any reason.
Five leading causes of death were:
1. Pneumonia and influenza
2. Tuberculosis
3. Diarrhea
4. Heart disease
5. Stroke
The American flag had 45 stars.
The population of Las Vegas, Nevada, was only 30!!!!
Crossword puzzles, canned beer, and ice tea hadn't been invented yet.
There was no Mother's Day or Father's Day.
Two out of every 10 adults couldn't read or write. Only 6 percent of all Americans had graduated from high school.
Marijuana, heroin, and morphine were all available over the counter at the local corner drugstores. Back then pharmacists said, "Heroin clears the complexion, gives buoyancy to the mind, regulates the stomach and bowels, and is, in fact, a perfect guardian of health." ( Shocking? DUH! )
Eighteen percent of households had at least one full-time servant or domestic help.
There were about 230 reported murders in the ENTIRE ! U.S.A. !
Now I forwarded this from someone else without typing it myself, and sent it to you and others all over the United States,& Canada possibly the world, in a matter of seconds!
Try to imagine what it may be like in another 100 years.
IT STAGGERS THE MIND, EH?

Anonymous Sugar cost four cents a pound.
And there was never a shortage of sugar in the market!

Tiger No need for 100 years more. The children of today are so disconnected and do not even realise the events of 20-30 years ago that revolutionised the way we live today.

Apa Nama "By legalising sports betting... the government could earn annual revenue of up to RM3 billion ringgit through taxes."
Did anyone possibly hear of this amount in 1906?

What about "sports betting"?

HotDogg Right now there are about 300 million doggies in the world with about 3,000 new puppies born every hour. A hundred years from right now there'll be 3 billion doggies in the world!
Right now, if each doggie consumes one chicken (our favourite food) per week, then we'll need 43 million chickens per day as doggie chow.
43 million chickens per day!!!
Ain't got no time to blog buddy. Gotta get my new broiler farm started right away.

Anonymous John 14:12 (NKJV)
“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father."
Over 2000 years ago, Christ could only minister to those within walking distance but today with high speed internet connection, millions can be reached at any given time.
In 1906, many had already left China mainland for Nanyang with only a small bag in hand and their courage to face all adversity. Malaysian of chinese descendant must be ever thankful of the sacrifices of their forefathers.
The current day tycoons and billionaires must ensure that education for the poor must be pursued till kingdom comes. Let there be no more illiterate people in Malaysia by 2020, ya.psalla

LOL!! I did not know that doggies love chicken! My vet used to tell me never to give them chicken or chicken bones. I thought doggies love beef or lab :-).
Let me know the progress of your broiler farm :-). Make sure no one snatches it from right under your nose to rename it 1Broiler :-).
Take care and lovely to hear from you again!

While it is commendable that broadband penetration has made many a more informed lot, there are still many from the older generation and those living in the interior who are uninitiated where IT and internet is concerned. I believe the key in learning for this age group is definitely via the internet...May our government increase broadband penetration to these areas.
Thanks for your wise input that set my mind working about many issues.
Take care, ahoo and warmest wishes to you and your family!
Shalom
Ummie Another 100 years? I'll be dead even before 100.
Will the sun still be shining or the possibility of it being a conquered territory if it does.
