Then we had this humongous meat platter which came with a variety of sausages in different sizes, flavors and also hams, meatloaf, bacon, meat patties, roast meat etc. Note that by the time I remembered to take a pic, we had already devoured the hash browns, sauerkraut, brown bread and a few of the sausages...We had a great time together reminiscing and talking nineteen to a dozen. Philip 'polished' the plate and we both enjoyed the meal and company tremendously. I just can't believe that we have been friends for 32 years!!!
Then, this morning, I took my former student, Sam (who is back on vacation from Perth), on a mini food tour of Penang. After he picked me up at 9.35a.m., we were supposed to go to E-Gate for breakfast at Old Town White Coffee. However, he missed a turn and we ended up on the coastal highway. Then we wanted to go for the famous Hokkien Mee but missed the turn again so we headed to the famous Toh Soon Cafe where we had the charcoal toasted bread with kaya and butter with piping hot local coffee.
Still feeling hungry, we proceeded to Hai Onn along Burmah Road. On the way there, I bought the famous Chee Cheong Fun from the stall along Macalister Lane and made our way to Hai Onn where we enjoyed the famous Koay Teow Tng with home-made fish balls. While relishing the delicious and smooth kuay teow, we were accosted by Mama Otak who speaks good English. She convinced me that her otak-otak is authentic and that her kerabu meehoo is ze best so yours truly bought a packet of each and also a packet of koay teow rice noodles for my younger boy.
In half an hour's time, Nisha, another former student who is now doing her internship at GH, will be popping by to have tea with me. Golly! This evening, I HAVE to exercise no matter what.
Anyway, here is a collage of what we had this morning to tempt you to visit Penang where you can get THE BEST hawker fare. :-) Next sopo post will be up later. Have a lovely day and do let me know if you are up in Penang. It would be a pleasure to fatten you! Cheers!
