FORTY-NINE YEARS LATER - The Sound of Music

Thanks to Kak Fawzia who sent me the following post. Make sure you scroll to the end and read the lyrics (new) for the song “These Are My Favorite Things”. Can it possibly be that many years ago!

Make sure you read the new lyrics to the original song below. Remember the 7 children of the Von Trapp family? 'The Sound of Music' won the Academy Award for Best Picture of 1965 and is one of the most popular musicals ever produced.

Forty-nine years later....

CURRENTLY.....

It wouldn't be funny if it weren't so true... Julie Andrews turned 69 and to commemorate her 69th birthday on October 1, actress/vocalist Julie Andrews made a special appearance at Manhattan 's Radio City Music Hall for the benefit of the AARP. One of the musical numbers she performed was "My Favourite Things" from the legendary movie "The Sound Of Music."

Here are the actual lyrics she used:

Maalox and nose drops and needles for knitting,
Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings,
Bundles of magazines tied up in string,
These are a few of my favourite things.

Cadillac's and cataracts, and hearing aids and glasses,
Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses,
Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings,
These are a few of my favourite things..

When the pipes leak, When the bones creak,
When the knees go bad,
I simply remember my favourite things,
And then I don't feel so bad.

Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions,
No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions,
Bathrobes and heating pads and hot meals they bring,
These are a few of my favourite things.

Back pains, confused brains, and no need for sinnin',
Thin bones and fractures and hair that is thinnin',
And we won't mention our short, shrunken frames,
When we remember our favourite things.

When the joints ache, When the hips break,
When the eyes grow dim,
Then I remember the great life I've had,
And then I don't feel so bad.

Ms. Andrews received a standing ovation from the crowd that lasted over four minutes and repeated encores. Please share Ms. Andrews' clever wit and humour with others who would appreciate it.

My Mama said the songs from the film were the staple of her music lessons in school. Her favourite is Edelweiss, she said. hmmm....oh dear...here she goes again. Been singing since we read this. purrr....meow!

Anonymous This 5 academy award winner (including Best Picture of the Year) is the ultimate feel-good movie and its popularity is timeless and borderless. Whether you are 6 years old or 60, whether you saw it 45 years ago or saw it yesterday, the movie is still filled with the same beauty and message of love, hope and hapiness that was felt by the millions of viewers all over the world.

If not for the epic Dr. Zhivago, which was released in the same year, it would have won even more awards.

Anonymous By the way, the Sound of Music was released in 1965. It may be 49 years ago in your head, but the official age of the movie is 45.

Of course I remembered you were never good with numbers. :-)

    Cheers

Oh my favorite one is "My Favorite Things" and also "Edelweiss" also.

Yes, like your mama, I also sang many of the songs during music lessons in school!

    Such a coincidence. :-)

Take care and have a great weekend!

    Salam

Awww I see you are a fan as well! Thanks for that info. In the 1990's, I visited Austria - Vienna and Salzburg and went to all the places where they filmed the movie!

I also like Dr. Zhivago although it has a different theme.

Take care and glad we share the same regard for this gem of a movie!

    Cheers

Haha! Actually, I did not check the age of the movie.

Anonymous Old is gold in this case ! The power of wholesome movie for the family with songs and well written storyline had indeed touched many lives.

We need more of such story to touch our young ones to nuture them in loving classical music without the heavy metal involved.
