Is It Your Mountain?

There were two warring tribes in the Andes, one that lived in the lowlands and the other high in the mountains. The mountain people invaded the lowlanders one day, and as part of their plundering of the people, they kidnapped a baby of one of the lowlander families and took the infant with them back up into the mountains.

The lowlanders didn't know how to climb the mountain. They didn't know any of the trails that the mountain people used, and they didn't know where to find the mountain people or how to track them in the steep terrain.

Even so, they sent out their best party of fighting men to climb the mountain and bring the baby home.

The men tried first one method of climbing and then another. They tried one trail and then another. After several days of effort, however, they had climbed only several hundred feet.

Feeling hopeless and helpless, the lowlander men decided that the cause was lost, and they prepared to return to their village below.

As they were packing their gear for the descent, they saw the baby's mother walking toward them. They realized that she was coming down the mountain that they hadn't figured out how to climb.

And then they saw that she had the baby strapped to her back. How could that be?

One man greeted her and said, "We couldn't climb this mountain. How did you do this when we, the strongest and most able men in the village, couldn't do it?"

She shrugged her shoulders and said, "It wasn't your baby."

Ummie Maybe it's the motherly instinct or the natural bonding she had that led to her success in rescuing her baby.

    Unknown Dear Ummi,

I agree with you. The maternal instinct is different in that we have actually carried our babies for nine months or so. The bonding and connection is very powerful and if it were me, I would also do the same. Of course, fathers also love their kids but the feelings are different cos the pyschological and emotional make-up differ.

Take care and thanks for sharing, dear Ummie. Have a blessed day!

    Salam

Anonymous The warring tribes and the mountains remind me of the true story of a missionary couple that went to the interior of Papua New Guinea and lived amongst the unreached people group.

Dr.Richard Don Richardson eventually managed to get these tribes to make peace instead of warring till kingdom comes. The book named "The Peace child" a must read for any adventurous couple wanting to reach the unreach in the mountains as it contains valuable experiences through "lived-in" encounter that almost took their lives many times.

I'd the rare oportunity to get him to autograph the book when he was in KL launching the book almost 15 years ago. They even had their child born and grew up with the tribal people in the jungle and speak tribal tongues as well. What a great challenge to those who dare to conquer the mountains. Nothing is too tough if the call clarion is for a definite purpose.

As for all of us Malaysians, it is the duty to conquer the mountains of apathy in politics. Many out there are not concern as their version of political scenario is only via MSMs and they say that the known devils are still better than the unknown angels ??? Well, for that statement alone we are worried for our future generations who have no interest in politics but online games. God saves us all !
