I am Woman Hear Me HONK!

Feeling bored? If you are a woman and need an adrenaline rush, please read this article HERE from Free Malaysia Today. I guarantee a spike in your blood pressure sans any medication. All it takes is a click of the mouse to get you THERE.

According to that report: (my comments are in italics)

1. Umno MP Bung Mokhtar Radin has blamed women drivers for road accidents, and in the ensuing debate, described his PAS counterpart Dr Siti Mariah Mahmood as a “monkey.”

* Does he have statistics to show that women drivers are responsible for road accidents?
Show us:

a) the frequency of accidents caused by women against those caused by men
b) the types of accidents caused by women against those caused by men
c) evidence to prove that men are better, safer and more careful drivers than women and in what ways
d) a compare and contrast case to justify his name-calling act on Dr. Siti Mariah Mahmood

Now if you are a lady driver, what is YOUR RESPONSE to Bung Mokhtar Radin' 'scholarly' observation? Please speak up!!! Thanks!!!

2. The Kinabatangan MP who is no stranger to ruffling feathers with his sexist remarks told the House that women drivers do not concentrate on the road.

Again, I hope he can provide evidence to show that he has done an EXTENSIVE, EXHAUSTIVE and REPRESENTATIVE STUDY to show that women do not concentrate on the road. Otherwise, such a statement can be deemed as an overgeneralization or a stereotype which is totally uncalled for and most unbecoming of a MP.

I am a lady driver and I can assure you that I ALWAYS concentrate on the road!!! I do not remember Bung Mokhtar ever doing an observation of my driving to contribute to his observation! So how on earth can he make such a sweeping statement of WOMEN DRIVERS?

Please speak up, readers!!!

3. “Just because they are inside a car, they think that the world is theirs, they don’t look or left,” he said, adding that when honked at, women drivers get upset.

On my part, I have never thought that the world is mine once I am inside a car. I DO NOT HAVE TUNNEL VISION. Neither do I wear a neck brace that prevents me from looking to the right or to the left. However, I admit that when someone honks at me unfairly, I HONK BACK! But if I am in the wrong, e.g. moving too slowly, I wave and nod in an apologetic stance.

How many women drivers has Bung Mokhtar Radin OBSERVED? Is it his past time?

4. “There are times when we honk, and they show all sorts of signs,” he said.

If a person honks unfairly, of course some will reciprocate accordingly. Does he expect us to grovel before him and pay homage when he honks at us at any time? Does it mean that in ALL CIRCUMSTANCES, women have to be subservient to men and not express our feelings????

5. This prompted Siti Mariah to demand that Bung retract his remarks, stating that his statement was too general.

I support Siti Mariah's move.

6. However, Bung was adamant that he had spoken the truth, and lashed out at the Kota Raja MP for attempting to politicise the issue.

Since when is speaking up against an overgeneralized statement a move to politicise an issue? Does he know the meaning of  "statement was too general"?

“We are talking about accidents, don’t politicise everything, don’t be a monkey. You want to even politicise deaths,” he snapped.

What nonsense? From sexist statements to politicising issues and then indulging in name-calling and then politicising deaths? Is he for real????

At this juncture, Dzulkefly Ahmad (PAS- Kuala Selangor) came to his colleague’s aide and asked Bung what evidence he had to back his claim.

Kudos to Dr. Dzulkefly!

He also reminded the Umno MP that his wife and mother were women.

Well done, Dr. Dzulkefly! I hope that MP's mom and wife reads the newspaper report about his wonderful statements.

7. Bung remained unapologetic and argued that he was not being disrespectful to women but merely pointing out that accidents happened to women who had just passed their driving tests.

Yup - twist and shout in the tradition of the Beatles. CLICK HERE to listen to the song to cool down!

“Do not politicise the issue,” he repeated. “There is no discrimination… (I am referring) only to new drivers,” he said.

More twists!!! Come onnnnnnnnnn!!!

Coming to Bung’s defence, Abdul Rahman Dahlan (BN-Kota Belud) said that the Kinabatangan MP was not being disrespectful to women.

Oh yeah???? Then what was he doing? Glorifying women kah?

8. “I sympathise with Kinabatangan… there are no negative implications (to his statement). Women are more careful, so they drive slower. There is no discrimination (against women),” he said.

Hmmm!! In the mean time, I am woman, HEAR ME HONK!!!!

justme Men generally respect women. There are some who are real chauvinistic pigs of the first degree. Also there are those who tend to pick on women in general are those suffering mental torture due to their shortcomings. That fat Bung toad most probably is an eunuch, with an intact organ. Thus having a new young wife, its a case of so near yet so far, yearn to perform yet unable to? Thats pure mental torture.

Thanks so much for a very spirited response to my post. It is so true that some are quite chauvinistic and blind to their own shortcomings. I wonder how they actually behave when with their loved ones. Your comment brought many smiles to my face. Thanks for your wit and tongue-in-cheek humor! Take care and do keep in touch.

Haha!! Ya - you are right! I was hopping mad when I read the article and even when writing the post :-). But, listening to the Beatles really helped me to cool down haha..Pity that some choose to elect simpletons who think they are God's gift to mankind. Sighs.

Ethan There are countries which actually prefer women drivers on the road. And based on a scientific study conducted in the United States, women are less aggressive and more law-abiding. Also, according to New York Times (August 2010), women were less likely to figure in road accidents than men.

    So girls, cheer up!
