― Leo Tolstoy, Anna Karenina

“How can you govern a country which has 246 varieties of cheese?”
― Charles de Gaulle

“Read. Read. Read. Just don't read one type of book. Read different books by various authors so that you develop different style.”
― R.L. Stine

“Somebody who only reads newspapers and at best books of contemporary authors looks to me like an extremely near-sighted person who scorns eyeglasses. He is completely dependent on the prejudices and fashions of his times, since he never gets to see or hear anything else.”
― Albert Einstein

“It is time for parents to teach young people early on that in diversity there is beauty and there is strength.”
― Maya Angelou

“I know there is strength in the differences between us. I know there is comfort, where we overlap.”

“Controversial' as we all know, is often a euphemism for 'interesting and intelligent.”

“It is never too late to give up your prejudices”

“Never judge someone by the way he looks, Or a book by the way it's covered; For inside those tattered pages, There's a lot to be discovered”
― Stephen Cosgrove

“Strength lies in differences, not in similarities”
― Stephen R. Covey

“The plague of mankind is the fear and rejection of diversity: monotheism, monarchy, monogamy and, in our age, monomedicine. The belief that there is only one right way to live, only one right way to regulate religious, political, sexual, medical affairs is the root cause of the greatest threat to man: members of his own species, bent on ensuring his salvation, security, and sanity. ”
― Thomas Stephen Szasz

“If we cannot end now our differences, at least we can help make the world safe for diversity.”
― John F. Kennedy

― Ray Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451

“If man is to survive, he will have learned to take a delight in the essential differences between men and between cultures. He will learn that differences in ideas and attitudes are a delight, part of life's exciting variety, not something to fear.”
― Gene Roddenberry

“I have a self-made quote: Celebrate diversity, practice acceptance and may we all choose peaceful options to conflict.”
― Donzella Michele Malone

“I never knew anybody . . . who found life simple. I think a life or a time looks simple when you leave out the details.”
― Ursula K. Le Guin, The Birthday of the World and Other Stories

“We are the offspring of history, and must establish our own paths in this most diverse and interesting of conceivable universes—one indifferent to our suffering, and therefore offering us maximum freedom to thrive, or to fail, in our own chosen way.”
― Stephen Jay Gould

“I can imagine nothing more terrifying than an Eternity filled with men who were all the same. The only thing which has made life bearable…has been the diversity of creatures on the surface of the globe.”
― T.H. White, The Book of Merlyn

“I would rather be governed by the first 2000 people in the Manhattan phone book than the entire faculty of Harvard.”
― William F. Buckley Jr.

I am putting up this post in appreciation to Angela - a dear friend who has stood by me through thick and thin. We do not always agree on everything but we agree to differ and we are still very good friends, despite whatever differences we may still have. She has scolded me more than my own parents did. In fact, when writing this, she asked me to add "She has taunted, cajoled, tormented, shouted ...scolding everyday even to the extent of not allowing me to cry! In fact, she is the greatest critic of my writings and thanks to her, I am more precise in my writing. She has taught me a lot about life, wisdom and friendship. Indeed, I thank God for her and the way she (plus Walla) has breathed wisdom and insight into my life.
