This evening, a friend's nephew visited me to ask for advice with regards to the IELTS exam requirements. During the course of the conversation, he whipped out a sheet of paper and showed it to me.

With raised eyebrows, he asked, "Aunty Paula, can you believe this was a test I took in school today during the MUET class?"

Casually, I looked at the sheet and nearly fainted. Here it is:

Me: Worse - it is about kindergarten during your time and perhaps Std 4 for the current group of students. *faints* Worse still - SOME FAILED the test!!! The lowest was 22/50!!! Ahem. My friend's nephew scored full marks. :-)

Me: Elijah, HC, Tomus and CC, SERIOUS!!! This was a class test and my friend's nephew just said that the teacher gave them ONE HOUR to do the test and he took less than six minutes to finish the test! *faints*

Me: ‎Tomus, I agree with you. It is totally outrageous that such a test can be given for such an extended period of time. Worse still, the fact that fifteen of 100 students failed is appalling! I am doing alright, thanks. Getting older and hopefully wiser.

Me: L, I concur with you. You know, they changed the literature syllabus and the Form 1 literature book is an illustrated version of 'Black Beauty'. I think one day they will be learning 'Jack and Jill' in Form One for poetry. And the questions for exams will be: a) What did Jack and Jill carry? (a) pale (b) pail (c) peal (d) pole LOL
