Ever since the Penang Peforming Arts Centre (PenPac) opened at Straits Quay, Penangites and others have had the opportunity to witness a variety of performances ranging from drama/dance presentations, musicals and other types of performing arts. This week, you can catch the musical Paper Crane .

"Created by a tried and tested team led by Dato’ Faridah Merican and Joe Hasham OAM, Paper Crane is a dramatic story with a touch of romance, humour and 15 catchy Broadway-style songs performed by a 7-piece live band. Also featuring are the stunning and lavish costumes created by famed Japanese designer Shingo Tokihiro." (Source: HERE)

Here's the synopsis for Paper Crane:

Armed with just a dream, Ah Kit ventures to join a Cantonese Opera troupe. However his dreams are dashed when he earns the wrath of the current superstar incumbent, Fui Koh, and he is hired as a lowly stagehand.
As he works hard to prove himself, he befriends another apprentice, Siu Ngau. His potential is noticed not only by the Manager, but also his daughter, Fei Mui.
As love blossoms between Ah Kit and Fei Mui, the friction increases between Ah Kit and Fui Koh. The superstar feels increasingly threatened by Ah Kit’s presence leading to an inevitable showdown. To what lengths will each go to protect what they hold to their hearts so dearly?

This is one musical that you must not miss. Book your tickets AT THIS SITE. I will be catching this musical tomorrow night. :-) You can read the rave reviews of this musical by various MSM and online portals HERE.

I first met Colin, one of the leads in 'Paper Crane', at the audition for the musical 'Make It Clear' presented in conjunction with USM's Open Day. He stumped me with his musical prowess on the piano and his beautiful tenor voice. As the accompanist for the musical, he was patient, adaptable and most encouraging. We worked together in 'Sonlife' the following year and we lost contact for many years until I met him again in Penang when his team in 'A Crazy Little Thing Called Love', presented by Footstool Players at Wesley Methodist Church. We met up again a few nights ago and will be on a Penang heritage trail once I put up this post. :-) I am thankful that a friendship forged because of a mutual love for music has lasted so many years!

Colin studied theatre arts and worked in theatre in Canada before returning to Malaysia in 1998. He is now a freelance performing artist, creative arts trainer and church pastor. Colin's favourite things include chocolate, backpacking off the beaten track, chocolate, hiking mountain trails, chocolate, playing the piano, and chocolate. (Source: HERE)

You can read more about him AT THIS LINK.

Don't forget to call Sue at PenPac at 04 899 1722 or 04 899 2722 to book your tickets NOW. The musical has been playing to full house every night! Performed primarily in Cantonese with scene by scene descriptions in English and Chinese. Paper Crane is a production of The Actors Studio under its Seni Teater Rakyat programme. See you there if you are going tomorrow night!

Ken Hi Masterwordsmith, your sharing is indeed wonderful, thank you! I know your blog via PenangPac Fb.

I'm the owner of This was started 2 months ago because of sheer passion. It is a place to view and share events/share our thoughts and review about Penang events. I'm currently inviting a group of event bloggers who share inspiring reviews about personal experiences to the readers.

Currently one blogger has joined our squad, he is Willy Wah. We will promote authors' posts via Facebook & Pinterest. There is a special guest authors page to promote your blog. The guest blogging is not complicated - you could log in to Fun Penang's WordPress blogging tool as an author role to share your post without approval needed.

Cool perks for this include having a consistent readership (averagely 300 visits per day), some fun times to hang with the crew and even attend events on behalf of Fun Penang together. After all, Fun Penang is helping people to find Penang activities and promoting Penang events. I'm very grateful if Masterwordsmith could consider to join our humble squad to promote Penang events.
