Each morning when I sip my coffee, I give myself little research projects which will decide the direction of my blog posts. Well, this morning was no exception. I decided to discover who are the young rising stars in the music industry who deserve more recognition for their talent.

And that is how I discovered Gary Chaw and Wanting Qu...

Wanting Qu (also known as Qu Wanting) (born October 10, 1983) is a Chinese-Canadian pianist, singer and songwriter based in Vancouver.

Wanting was born and raised in Harbin, Heilongjiang, China. She came to Canada at 16 to study, eventually earning a degree in international business, and relocated to Vancouver where she began her musical career.
In 2009, she became the first Chinese artist to be signed to the Nettwerk label; she is managed by Terry McBride. Her first album, Everything In The World (jointly released with Universal Music China in 2012) went platinum in China within its first week on sale, and her singles "You Exist in My Song" and "Drenched" were used in the soundtrack for the Hong Kong film Love in the Buff.

In 2013 she became the first ever tourism ambassador for Vancouver, with the intention of raising Canada's profile among destinations for Chinese visitors. Qu will participate in a series of videos, bringing together her music with scenic imagery of British Columbia. She will also personally show fans around Vancouver and Whistler as part of a contest.

Qu appeared on the 2013 CCTV New Year's Gala, where she performed "You Exist In My Song."
The song "Star in You" from album Everything In The World was featured in Degrassi: The Next Generation in the episode "Bitter Sweet Symphony, Part II" on Feb 22nd, 2013.(Source: Wikipedia)

The following video clip "Drenched" by Wanting was recorded in her home. I love the unusual timbre of her voice and her musicianship.

The other famous star is Gary Chaw...

Gary Chaw was born on 9 July 1979 in Kota Belud, Sabah, Malaysia, also known as Gary Cao or Cao Ge. He is a Malaysian Chinese Golden Melody Awards singer-songwriter based in Taiwan, who has had achieved success in Taiwan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Singapore. Chaw lived with his grandfather since he was 11 months old as his parents separated. He received his early education in Canada when he was 9. He later went on to continue his studies in Engineering at the University of Auckland in New Zealand. However, he left New Zealand before completing his studies. "He took this cat home and raised it since they both were unwanted by society.[4] He named it "Lin Lin" and wrote a song for the cat "The world's only you" . From then on, his career completely changed. After three years of hard work, he signed with Rock Records.

Here's Gary Chaw with his rendition of ALL I HAVE TO DO IS DREAM performed with his band Project Sensation.
