In the early 1970's, I lived in Air Itam. I used to visit Air Itam Dam with my neighbour, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sylvia Wang of Northwestern University, on Saturday mornings. We would take a short cut from our neighbourhood and walk up the dam. Sweet memories of times shared and unbelievable stamina.

Forty years down the road, I have been visiting Air Itam Dam for the past few weekends. It is one of the few places that is still untouched by development (THANK GOD!!!!). I regard it as my safe haven.

My only complaint is how mountain bikers flaunt rules and warnings by cycling round the dam. Even the PWA workers highlighted the selfishness of these cyclists who care only about their personal enjoyment with little regard for the safety of others.

Anyway, do enjoy the following pics taken around Air Itam Dam, Penang. I am no photographer...these were taken with Note 1. I guess I tend to view life differently from others. While many prefer to click the scenic view of Penang from the dam, I prefer the amazing foliage of the area...the shades of green, the reflections on the water...the peace, calmness and ambience of the area, even the smell of the decaying leaves. Exhilarating!

This is my idea of spending my leisure - close to nature, not at some overcrowded shopping mall...inhaling fresh air and drinking in the beauty of God's masterpiece.

I took an hour to walk round the dam. A lady who is older than me ran past me three times and said she was preparing for the Penang Bridge Marathon. Another man ran past me five times! I collected dried leaves and will be doing an art project with the collection this afternoon...

patches Hi Paula - long time no chat!! Not sure what email to use now. Do call whenever you come to KL so we can chat over a cuppa!
Didn't realize the place is so beautiful but correct me if I'm wrong, is the dam and the reservoir the same??? Oh my the Malaysian use of words is confusing.

Yes, it has been some time. The last time we spoke you told me of the possibility of a visit to Penang with your niece.

I did call you a couple of months ago but there was no reply.

They are not the same.

Unknown Hi llady, Those shots were certainly pleasing to the eyes - bonding with Mother nature and what you need is just a joran or if possible a rowboat (if gnats and mosqis) were not of bother.
Scenic indeed but I thought you would be well on the way to try to look 30 at 60 like that lucky China Doll who wed a man half her age!
I know I would want to try chipping of the prune wrinkles and brownies I am sporting.
Glad we spared the Haiyan Typhoon ravages!
Today I went to zakat to try my hands at SMEs. Met a young mum who is receiving aid to pay for her 9-year old boy treatment from lympho-leukemia at Hosp. Putrajaya. She has already spent RM 32,000 for total blood transfusion when he was 7.
Allah has always ways of reminding us of our mortality. So lets enjoy his beautiful Earth while we can.
