THE UNEXPECTED FAVOR

During such trying times, it is easy to retaliate with anger, strife and negativism or even thoughts of revenge. I am sure many Malaysians are more mature than that. I have always advocated tolerance, understanding, kindness and love to overcome such challenging times although I have received some brickbats for this stand. Being tolerant is not a sign of weakness; rather - it means that we deliberately decide not to do something which goes against the grain of our beliefs for the collective good of society.

Many writers and bloggers including myself have written about the possible causes of the bombing and the events that have led to this tragic event. In this post, I want to highlight all the positive points that have come out of all the fire-bombing and the unexpected good that has come out of these despicable acts. Yes, there is a silver lining in all the dark clouds...

1. The rakyat now know the stand of Pakatan Rakyat leaders about the bombings and can contrast it with that of BN leaders, especially our PM and HM.

2. The rakyat now know how certain laws are applicable for one group of people and not for another which explains why some get arrested for demonstrations and others don't.

3. The East Malaysians can see for themselves the necessity NOT to vote for the status quo come the next elections for reasons that are so obvious.

4. Some Malaysian Christians have experienced first-hand what is meant by persecution of their faith and this time of testing has shown that their faith is build on solid rock as many are unwavering in their faith and prayers to the heavens for deliverance. At the same time, it is also the opportunity for them to show the mettle they have as they publicly declare that they forgive the arsonists.

5. Malaysians have done very well because people of different creed, color and class have come together to condemn these despicable acts. What a glorious show of unity indeed!

6. Malaysians now know that the nation's foreign exchange reserves have fallen by close to 25 percent during 2009 according to investment bank UBS even though the country continued to run a huge surplus on the current account of its balance of payments. The more certain reason however is the outflow of local private capital has been taking place on an unprecedented scale in response to political instability, massive official corruption and discrimination against non-Malays. Click HERE to read more.

7. Malaysians have won the day because they chose the path of non-retaliation and did not turn up in droves in the protests, neither were there any clashes. Only those culprits disgraced themselves.

8. Malaysians have seen for themselves the sincerity and insincerity of certain leaders based on what they said before and after the fire-bombing. I need not say more. Also, they can see the difference in the caliber of leaders on both sides of the divide more clearly now and choose correctly and wisely when the time comes. Malaysians can remember far better than they think.

9. More than ever, Malaysians are aware of the need to work harder to push out the status quo in the next elections.

10. There are now opportunities for inter-denominational dialogue and those of other faiths have stepped forward to help the victims of the firebombing, including about 130 Muslim non-governmental organizations (NGOs) who have reportedly volunteered to help ensure the safety of Christian churches around the country. The Muslim chief executive of one local bank has donated 100,000 ringgit (US$$30,000) on behalf of his institution for church reconstruction. All this is definitely good news for inter-faith understanding and relationships.

11. Thanks to brainless morons, our tourism industry may probably be affected as fewer would want to come and risk being fire-bombed. Who will take responsibility for this? What is the point of having trade commissions and international campaigns for tourism when behind the scenes, some evil characters plot like demons shining in hell for the hidden agenda of their lord?

12. Foreigners have expressed their concerns about the recent occurrences and these incidents may affect the Malaysia My Second Home program. It is also quite embarrassing that the Home Ministry had to reassure foreign missions that everything is under control, but is it really? It does not help when some quarters say one thing and mean another and then say another contradictory statement...Indeed, words are very powerful and people remember.

Well, there are always two sides to a coin. We can choose to accent the negatives or we can choose to see the positive outcome of such incidents and hope that things take a turn for the better and I am not being foolish in hoping this way. Many other websites, writers and blogs have written about this. I am grieved by what happened but I will not rest in my grief, neither will I allow it to mar my view of the better tomorrow that will come if there is a change in the mindset of Malaysians and if they vote correctly.

In the mean time, while we forgive those responsible for the despicable acts of fire-bombing, we must be glad for the unexpected good that came out of this....

Yes, I see a rainbow....Do you?

Have a lovely evening!!!

Force and violence are used by weak characters who pretend to be strong whereas those who choose the path of non-violence are the ones with strength of character.

Take care and have a good rest, dear QQ.

    Warmest regards

Wise words, dear CKW. It is when leaders have the hearts of the rakyat that can be seen in words and actions that they can gain their trust!

Take care and have a lovely evening.

    Cheers

    nick Sis,

It didn't rain today so no rainbows. However did see a FULL MOON, a ROCKET and a BIG BLUE EYE united in their stand. Looks and sounds promising!

BTW, I'm tickled to no end thinking about your posting on Murphy's law. It seems that Murphy's law whacked UMNO good and at the most inopportune moment too (missing cows...err..jet engine, sorry..too much BE being spewed all over the country).

Their despicable gambit of religious intolerance and hate mongering, backfired thank goodness. GOD is watching over us.

BUT then again it might not all due to Murphy's law b'cos they, are morons! And you can depend on morons to do stupid things. Correct? Correct? Correct!!! (Looks like a moron, sounds like a moron BUT too stupid to recognize themselves!)

It's bad enough we had to deal with BE. We have to deal with these idiots too? (That fella Hisapmudin wants the opposition to repent???) Day by day this country is sinking lower due to the weight of their stupidity. Hopefully by the next GE, we're are still salvageable.

    Hamba.
All is not lost since we have a full moon, a rocket and a big blue eye. Have a pleasant evening Sis.

romerz Not only do I see a rainbow but I see a pot of gold at the end of it!

And you are one of the shiny pieces in that pot!

  1. says:

Anonymous Do you know that there is a kind of metal they call "Fool's Gold" ?

    It really looks like gold.

    Yellowish, shiny, soft.

    But it ain't gold.

The same thing applies to your false sense of optimism.

Yeah, it looks like a rainbow.

    But is it?

Hey, there's a light at the end of the tunnel.

    "Hooray !" you elated.

    But wait.

    That light is moving !

    Wait !

It's a train, and it is rushing towards us !

You see, denim girl, there's only so much optimism that can bring about a better life.

Anything more will bring about disaster, since it's nothing but false hope.

You can have all the false hopes, if you want.

But it ain't gonna change the situation.

    It just ain't.

Yesterday you gave me that "I have a dream" speech by MLK, and I tell you one thing --- if MLK happened to be in M'sia, the system would dealt him even more horribly than what he got in America.

The system in Malaysia would accuse him of being a faggot.

    Of corruption.

    Of being a racist.

    And so on.

You see, MLK is MLK because he was a American. MLK will be a nobody in Malaysia, because what he did in USA will never work here.

So wake up and smell the coffee, Denim Girl.

Wake up, before it's too late !

I love the way you look at things - with so much wit, humor, sarcasm and wisdom.

    Unknown Dear Romerz,

Wow! Thanks for being another optimistic Malaysian and for that generous and encouraging comment.

Needless to say, you, Nick and many other hopeful Malaysians are also shiny pieces in that pot. :-)

Take care and thanks for being who you are!

Thank you for sharing your honest opinion and pessimism with me.I respect your views and appreciate the fact that you painstakingly share your thoughts with me and try to convince me to be as pessimistic as you appear to be.

Even with my dying breath, I will still have the same stance that there is hope for Malaysia ...there is ALWAYS hope as long as we are ALIVE.

In the past, I used to be known as the Queen of Worrying and Pessimism. I have abdicated that throne and am thriving in optimism.

Occasionally, I get hit by bouts of pessimism but I refuse to be overcome by negativism.

Hope is not blind. Neither am I.

My faith teaches me that hope is confident expectation - the assurance of things that are unclear and uncertain. Hope is a fundamental component of life. Without hope, life loses its meaning and in death there is no hope.

I stand firm believing that Malaysians who trust or put their hope in God and also in the leaders who demonstrate integrity, accountability, truth, justice and positive virtues, will be helped and they will not be confounded, put to shame, or disappointed.

It is your life and up to you to continue to dwell in your negativism and pessimism.

I am immovable in my stand and nothing can take that hope and optimism away from me, no matter how dark the day.

Unlike you, I believe that if Martin Luther King had been Malaysian, he would have REVOLUTIONIZED the country the way he did in US.

Yet, I respect your view because each person is entitled to his/her view and I will not ram my view down your throat. It is strictly a personal thing.

Most sincerely, I hope that you will be happy always in every circumstance and every area of your life.

Take care and God bless you.

Perhaps you might want to check out Tengku Razaleigh's optimistic hope in Malaysia and Malaysians:

Still hopeful for Umno, Malaysia as posted in The Malaysian Insider.

For one who has gone through so much, and lost even more....he is still hopeful despite his age.

    What an inspiration!

    Be inspired ...

    Cheers

  1. says:

Anonymous Oh, I did read that piece in MI.

That Ku Li guy is trying desperately to tell the world how good UMNO really is.

So desperate that he even bring out the death of a Hainanese cook who used to work for his father.

True, Malaysia of yesteryears, people of all races crowded into the same kopitiam and joke to each others.

Do you see that happening now?

    Why not?

    Because of UMNO, of course.

But this Ku Li guy is trying to lie through his teeth, by singing his own version of "Kumbaya", by telling us that UMNO still can be saved.

    Oh, c'mon !

A monster which is filled with so much hate can be saved?

Ku Li's ultimate goal is to grab power inside UMNO.

He doesn't care for the people. He only cares for himself.

I know Ku Li very well, and I know what he has done.

Perhaps you don't know him as well.

    But I can't blame you.

Most of the Malaysians don't know the true nature of Ku Li, the RACIST.

Yes, Ku Li is a racist. He is a wolf wearing the skin of a lamb.

So many people worship Ku Li today because of the camouflage that he is wearing.

They don't know that deep inside Ku Li is a damn racist, as bad as Mahathir and Kerismuddin.

So no, I read that article from MI and I do not believe a single word from Ku Li.

    Denim guy.

  1. says:

    Unknown Dear Denim Guy

Many thanks for swinging by again to share your thoughts.

No one is perfect, including me...I am sure leaders from both sides of the divide have their share of strengths and weaknesses.

As for me, I take the good from the article and throw away what is not good...

I see his positivism in the following statement:

*I believe in people. They have faith in themselves, are generally good and can be taught... We as children learnt very quickly, didn’t we?

I believe he is brave enough to call a spade a spade as in the following statement:

*there’s so much accent on materialism now that people have lost their moral fibre.

*Why is it that Umno always seems to play the race card when in a tight spot?

Not only the race card, but also the religion card — anything. It’s about putting fear into the minds of the people. And fear that they may lose their positions.

    * I think the patronage system is at fault.

    * The leaders must be disciplined. If they cannot discipline themselves, they cannot discipline the people.

    * I believe in what Umno stood for — fair play, justice, equality — not what the present Umno is doing.

    * The position doesn’t matter. What matters is what happens to the people.

I do not know everything and can never know everything either...but I know that hope is a very powerful thing and negativism is destructive and I will not succumb to it. I used to and never will again...

Take care and God bless you.

    Best wishes
