How watching internet porn can affect your memory.

Meredith Carpenter and Lillian Fritz-Laylin, two Molecular and Cell Biology graduate students at UC Berkeley who blog at NCBI ROFL wrote about research findings of how Pornographic Picture Processing Interferes with Working Memory Performance.

“Some individuals report problems during and after Internet sex engagement, such as missing sleep and forgetting appointments, which are associated with negative life consequences.

One mechanism potentially leading to these kinds of problems is that sexual arousal during Internet sex might interfere with working memory (WM) capacity, resulting in a neglect of relevant environmental information and therefore disadvantageous decision making.

In this study, 28 healthy individuals performed 4 experimental manipulations of a pictorial 4-back WM task with neutral, negative, positive, or pornographic stimuli.

Participants also rated 100 pornographic pictures with respect to sexual arousal and indicated masturbation urges previous to and following pornographic picture presentation. Results revealed worse WM performance in the pornographic picture condition of the 4-back task compared with the three remaining picture conditions.

Furthermore, hierarchical regression analysis indicated an explanation of variance of the sensitivity in the pornographic picture condition by the subjective rating of the pornographic pictures as well as by a moderation effect of masturbation urges.

Results contribute to the view that indicators of sexual arousal due to pornographic picture processing interfere with WM performance.

Findings are discussed with respect to Internet sex addiction because WM interference by addiction-related cues is well known from substance dependencies.”

Another interesting report: Could watching porn before working out improve men’s weightlifting performance?

I took my blog off the internet for about 30 minutes this evening because the MYSTERIOUS reader who scans my blog unceasingly is back again. Those of you who are not aware of this thorn in my blog can read more HERE and HERE.

This time using:

Browser: Safari 7.0.0.296
Browser Language: English
Operating System: Blackberry OS
Screen Resolution: 800x480 [24 bit]

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (BlackBerry; U; BlackBerry 9860; en) AppleWebKit/534.11 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/7.0.0.296 Mobile Safari/534.11

But using FIVE different IP addresses for the five pages read. The computer ID is the same and the first time IP is the same.

I must congratulate this reader for the effort he/she put in to change the IP address. Thanks to your bizarre reading habits and weird practices, I have become more vigilant.

As always, please write to me at writetomws@hush.ai and tell me:

a) who are you?
b) what do you want?
c) why are you scanning my blog?
d) and why do you always scan my blog each time I write sth more 'controversial' such as the post on Are We Ready for Diversity in Opinion?

Well, this is the record for this evening:

    masterwordsmith Dear AAWilliam

My grateful thanks to you for resonating with this post.

I appreciate your input and I am also scratching my head as to why this zany pattern persists.

Actually, this person is not in a cyber cafe but surfing this time via his/her blackberry using the Research in Motion ISP and hosted by rdns.blackberry.net

    Most suspicious.

Nonetheless, I must thank that visitor who spices up the otherwise sedate and boring life of an almost senior citizen like me...:-)

Take care and hope that you will carry on blogging. Always a pleasure to hear from you.

    Have a great week ahead!

    Cheers!
