According to a new report published by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network, the happiest people in the world live in Northern Europe,

The World Happiness Report 2013 found Denmark to be the happiest country in the world, with its relatively close neighbours: Norway, Switzerland, Netherlands and Sweden making up the top five.

Malaysia is ranked at no. 56.

According to the report, 75% of differences in happiness could be due to:


  • GDP per capita
  • years of healthy life expectancy
  • having someone to count on
  • perception of corruption
  • prevalence of generosity 
  • and perceived freedom to make life choices.
