A THOUGHT-PROVOKING OBITUARY

The following was sent to me by ahoo. Apparently, it appeared in the London times. The message is sad, true and most relevant for us in Malaysia! Do leave a message to share your thoughts/response. Thanks! Have a lovely day!

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:
- Knowing when to come in out of the rain;
- Why the early bird gets the worm;
- Life isn't always fair;
- and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).
His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his wife, Discretion, by his daughter, Responsibility, and by his son, Reason.

He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers;
I Know My Rights
I Want It Now
Someone Else Is To Blame
I'm A Victim

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.

    nick Sis,

    I wonder what it's like to read the obituary for "Malaysian Democracy"? Will all of us sob silently or will Malaysian take a deep breath and swore that the demise of Malaysian democracy will not go unavenged! Just like the Malaysian sub won't go submerging, so should the Malaysian spirit of democracy won't be submerged!

    Long live Democracy for all Malaysian and GOD bless!

    Nick.

    Common sense is not that common!Don"t they have a sense to reason with?Whoever brought him up must have confused him all along.

    Anonymous According to that British born and German owned Mr. Octopus Sir Common Sense is not dead as reported. He is still in the ICU and will continue to remain there until and the people stand up and demand that he be given proper treatment that will cure him of his illness. Doctors in the ICU are now taking orders from the Director General of Health who has been istructed them to keep Sir Common Sense alive to prevent unrest in the country.

    The people must now speak through the Ballot Box to demand that the Director general of Health give instructions to the Doctors in the ICU to give Sir Common the medication that up to now they has been deliberately not given to him.
    Only then will normal commonsense will resume.Ramlax

    Anonymous Common sense has many other meanings besides "reason, good sense and sound judgment in practical matters" but that in itself, was sadly, never common at all.

    From the wiki on common sense

    "But common sense remains a perennial topic in epistemology and many philosophers make wide use of the concept or at least refer to it. Some related concepts include intuitions, pre-theoretic belief, ordinary language, the frame problem, foundational beliefs, good sense, endoxa, and axioms."

    The reliability of common sense:

    "Common-sense ideas tend to relate to events within human experience (such as good will), and thus appear commensurate with human scale. Humans lack any commonsense intuition of, for example, the behavior of the universe at subatomic distances [see quantum mechanics], or of speeds approaching that of light [see special relativity]. Often ideas that may be considered to be true by common sense are in fact false. It is seldom used as a professional Word."

    With no valuable operational function except for the phenomenological human experience (which is not considered relevant in a physicalist world view), it is no wonder that common sense has expired.

    It is survived by the following progeny:

    1. Determinism (which entails no responsibility)

    2. Expediency

    3. Utilitarianism

    4. Materialism

    Anonymous In Malusia, Commonsense has long been usurped by BUmno's Bodoh Sombong bigotry.

    PPl, take the country back, or forever stay stupid!

    Captain Obvious Dear masterwordsmith,

    His immortal arch-foe however out-lived and out-classes him, and he is, Stupidity!

    Stupidity has been around since..... the dinosaurs. Seriously, the dinos look up at the sky and go 'gruuuuu..... meteor..... pretty' and BANG!!!!! They're extinct. Well, to be very straight, yes, with Stupidity's influence in today's society there seems to be no way to stop him. In fact, HE is growing even bigger and look set to conquer the world with his carriers!!!!!

    Paris Hilton, as a matter of fact, is a carrier.

    Take care and do have a lovely weekend!

    Cheers!

    Murali The post-mortem showed Common Sense died a tragic death, with multiple wounds inflicted by Greed, Racism and Arrogance. These 3 tagged-team Common Sence with fury. Here's hoping Common Sences 4 stepbrothers raise have good children, who will remember their dearest uncle and walk in his footsteps..

    Greed, Racism and Arrogance left DNA evidence at the crime scene. As Common Sence lay there, gasping for air, he thought to himself,' if they only had common sence, his killers, they would have wore gloves!'. Now, they will be caught, and Justice will have his day! (Justice : long lost paternal cousin of Common Sense).
